Very good idea!
Erik?
i'm a little nervous about feedback systems like this. they are very polarizing!! i'll give it some more thought...
I agree - according to this, it would be easy for someone to strip "points" unfairly from another player. I have asked for an analysis forum on this site, and Erik said he would give it thought with time. That will be excellent. You will be able to go into a "broadcast" and set up a game, and even share control over moves and sidelines, while discussing ideas outside of the game. It is the closest thing to personal analysis outside of sitting across the board from your friend. No points distributed, however.
take away points? no. Giving points? yes.
You can always ignore responses that are not helpful. Giving points is a good idea, I dont know that it is the best idea. Points are just a way of showing how active a person is, which is why it is a good idea. It seems people are willing to help without that extra incentive. I would leave the awarding of points to the administrators, if that is something they are willing to take on. Either way :)
Sometimes I find it hard to get constructive criticism in there because most replies are of the sort: "Thanks", "Cool game" etc. Although such replies are nice as well, and I admit to sometimes making them myself, I don't think that's what was intended with the forum. I was thinking that maybe we should add some kind of "helpful-rating" just as there are chess.com points. When someone helps you with analysis you may choose to reward him by giving him (or maybe also taking away?) one or two helpful-points.
That way he will know that his help didn't go unnoticed (and it wouldn't any longer be necessary to post a "thanks for the help!" reply to fill up space). This will encourage much more helpful replies in the analysis forum and also provide a way of giving something back to people who have taken the time to help :) what do you think?
