Hardly anyone says "good game" now with thumbs up/down clicks

Was nice to get "that was tough one!" or "almost had me,"  ""gg!". Guess the sitemasters want another black/white metric to rate/ream/reward by. And have NEVER revealed what they do with it.

Nice post!

Seriously, it's not a conspiracy. They are just trying to manage the problem of poor sportsmanship. Some people can't be bothered to report but I have done it when people really got nasty. The thumbs down click just gives you a chance to make a report.

They reveal what they do with it every month in the monthly reports. Last month, there were 300,000+ abuse reports and about 10% of those reported had accounts restricted or closed.

Okay, thanks for reply, but I really don't need kindergarten desk buttons to report. Only rarely downvote when someone times-out when losing badly. Or uses foreign language that censorbot doesn't pick up to tell me that I was sired from an equine beast entering my mothers "backdoor." Being from Missouri, I like your username.

Not Mark Twain  .   I've long been a big fan of Samuel Langhorne Clemens.

What's the poor/good sport system got to do with the frequency people communicate positive vibes in the chatbox after a games done? there's no relevance at all.

Two choice scenarios:

1. Voters are given a ballot with two candidates to select from, and an additional space where they can write in a different candidate than those listed.

2. Voters are given a ballot with only a space where they can write in whomever they would like to elect.

You are saying that "the frequency people" would write in candidate in option 1 would be just as high as in option 2.

Coming from a different board game gaming site.  I am used to starting games with a greeting and a thank you at the end.  Not by everyone but by I would say the majority.  I do find not getting a greeting and acknowledgement at the end very cold.  I know we often used canned responses but it recognizes your playing a person.  Good manners are indeed important.  ( No good vampire enters a home uninvited ; )

I have started typing at least ty gg just before the last move so my opponent will see it.  If they did well, or there was something interesting I may say more.

If I want to chat to someone I use real life, or post in a forum like this to communicate with more people.  If I'm playing a game of chess online it's just a game of chess.  In Daily games I sometimes have a bit of a conversation, but in Blitz games people are just internet handles, I play one and move on, either to the next one or to leave the site and do something else.

Yeah I play mostly 30min games and say hi about 1/3 of time, gg almost always.  If people want  to chat it's obvious but don't do much when time is low or game is close. Have a pretty good feel and always default to leaving them alone.  100 followers in a little over year and no supermodel fake for avatar

Most of the time you get nothing back; which makes you think "why bother"; resulting in the spread of the attitude of indifference to your opponent. A shame; but you can't force people to engage and I understand some may choose not to for a number of reasons.

So true.  I just think we all need to work for courteous interactions.  It makes for a better society.

Hay, it is a good thread. I incorporated it into my suit.

Also, I sometimes click on the Good game! message. Usually by the time I do that, the other player has already left. However, I am positive that it makes the web site run better. I notice it loads faster when I do this. Try it and see!
