First off, this looks like a fantastic site.  I am a relative novice, but looking forward to improving my overall game (trial and error, right? :D)  I am really digging all the resources on here and feel like I'm already well on my way to becoming a complete chess nerd.  I was initially disappointed to see there are no live games to be played, but it is my understanding they are coming soon?  Thanks, and I look forward to playing!

Welcome xvirus, I'm pretty much a novice too but I have already learned a lot from completing the Daily Puzzle each day. Best of luck.

Yes, live chess is coming soon. There are many devoted Chess.com programmers working hard to get the "live chess" feature up and going as soon as possible.

Hello my name is keith, I am 63 soon and have only just stated to learn/play chess in the last 6 months, what a lot to learn, so many different openings/middle/endgames, help where is my zimmer frame I feel giddySmile. I have tried playing the computer game on this site, so far I seemed to have lost the game after the first few moves, I hope I can only improve, which I am sure I can by reading some of tips and advice on this very good site

KGP:  I'm 51 and have only played a few months.  It is incredibly challenging...so much to learn...but fun!  best wishes

good to see there are other learners here...I have been stomped by some serious people on this site!

This is the great thing about chess (and this site). We have so many people of different ages, different walks of life, but untied by a single game. I'm 47 and played when I was younger but only recently got back into playing. Maybe because I'm older, I'm hitting the training hard, put up to five hours a day into playing. I have said this before, but its the art and challange of chess that really makes me enjoy the game. I use Chessmaster software to train and play. It's got a really good training section that gets you up to basic speed, but you have to put in some time since the training section is extensive. Glad everyone is here!
