Homepage Redesign

I liked how u used to be able to solve the daily puzzle on the homepage w/o having to go to a new page.

And I have also noticed that sometimes the daily puzzle doesnt change daily.

Why is this?

It change, it is just your time zone or maybe they don't have any chess puzzle/problems to present.

This puzzle is very hard work, you need to research or read books. How many chess puzzles/problems are there?

If ever you will know how to solve all this puzzles it will make you a GM someday.

MAYBE U COULD ALSO INCLUDE SOME TACTICS AND ADVISES 4 NEW PLAYERS!

U COULD ALSO ADD "CHESS.COM INTERNATIONAL" FOR PLAYERS THAT LIVE IN OTHER COUNTRIES BESIDES UNITED STATES!

MAYBE U COULD ALSO ADD TEAM TOUNAMENTS FOR CHESS.COM LIKE 4 EXAMPLE A TEAM IN NORTH AMERICA, CENTRAL AMERICA, CARIBBEAN, SOUTH AMERICA, WESTERN EUROPE, CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPE, RUSSIA, WEST AFRICA, EAST AFRICA, NORTH AFRICA, SOUTH AFRICA, SOUTHWEST ASIA, SOUTH ASIA OR INDIAN SUBCONTINENT, SOUTHEAST ASIA, AND EAST ASIA!!!!!!!!1

some other things we can add:

- game of the day

- opening of the day

- upcoming chess.com tournaments

- featured member of the day

- featured chess book/equipment

- more about the benefits of chess.com

- site stats (# players, games, etc)

More web 2.0, more flash, more bling!

Just kidding, it's very nice the way it is.  If anything, I would suggest: simplify.

I think we should keep the calendar within chess.com however remove it from the front page only.

A suitible replacement could be the top 5 groups in chess.com so newcomers can join a group if they wanted to.

I would like to choose which box is displaying on my profile

(for instance, I would like to display the forum box and the problem of the day box, but not the news box nor the upcoming events box)

I like the Game of the Day idea--especially if you provide a space for members to 'kibitz' or discuss the game.  That's one of the neat features on that other site I no longer visit that offers a game explorer with 469,000 games.

I agree with an earlier comment on the calendar. The way it is now, it's quite useless. If you keep the calendar there, one should be able to filter events for a certain region only, and not display all events all over the world. Then it may be worth keeping it on the frontpage.

Another one I like is the one erik suggested at the beginning, to add more site stats to the frontpage. I bet it'll also draw the attention of new players if the main page had a box with:

• Members: 216,205
• Members from your country (say US): 96,204
• Members online on Chess.com: 50,000??
• Members online on Chess.com's Live Chess Beta: 500?
• Games completed in the Online Chess section: 10,000,000?
• Games in progress in the OC section: 500,000? no idea :)
• Games in progress in the Live Chess Beta: 100?

Maybe even include some data about specific stuff, like the Tactics Trainer (how many puzzles, how many attempts per player...), the Games Explorer (how many games), the Forum, Articles...

Maybe it's a little overwhelming but it would be interesting to see those stats I think :)

It is good as it is.

There could be a featured opening, tactic or strategy. Then a game of the day that features the opening, tactic or strategy that was highlighted.

 I always* remember something once I've seen it used in a real game :)

Would it be a massive task to find a game that features the days highlight. If not ,then I think this would be good.

 Just like chess a combination looks good.

*by always I mean only sometimes, but that sort of undermines my point.

I personally would like easier to find instructions on how to use the site- I see something new everyday and say, "where did that come from". Of course i have been stumbling around in the dark for years on many issues- thanks Eric

Everyone´s taste is different, so there always will be someone who do / don´t like something.

What does the homepage need? Well, be more attractive to new people who visit the site for the first time and get them exciting for be a member
(or how do you say that..)

i love the webpage exactly as it is

but i second the suggestions for a chess quote of the day, game of the day, and opening of the day. those would be absolutely fantastic.

also ive been a member for a fair while now, and i still use the homepage, as my homepage in firefox, which i find great for seeing the latest happenings for the day.

I Like the Webpage the WAY it is!!!

But I would just like to see some Featured Games! {IM, NM, FM, etc...} on the Page.

Other than that it's a Great Webpage.
