still kinda disagree with the venting method tho.

maybe vent by not destroying physical objects? cause i heard thats kinda bad for your health.

Maybe....

-stop playing and go for a walk (and scream/vent in a quieter place)

-go play something else

-go do something else

-review your game? then find the person who beat you, challenge them, and destroy them. lol

let's be real if someone has a raging problem in chess telling them to essentially "stop raging" is going to have basically no effectiveness

RAGING has nothing to do with playing chess, because you don't seem to RAGE when you win at chess. Approach the game with no emotions.

I've noticed that a lot with low rated players. Why do some do that ?

personally, I do that because something in real life prevents me from playing the game for an extended period of time.
might just be that they don't want to play against you or smthn though.

Don’t worry about it. Children have trouble controlling their emotions. But by the time you become 12 years old, you should be able to handle loss like an adult.

Once one learns that rating means nothing, the rage will quench.

I think the reason we value our rating so much is that we want to be great chess players, and even more importantly, we want to be know as great chess players, which is reflected by our rating. What you said is true, in and of itself our rating is meaningless, but it is a reflection of our skill. There is nothing wrong with desiring greatness in the small things, including chess. But as someone who struggles with "chess rage" after stupid losses, I recognize that we need to control our anger to become great. Anger makes us stupid. I do not recall the precise statistic, but I once read that our IQ drops by something like thirty percent when we are angry. That is the difference between an intellectually average person and a certified ret@rd. Remaining cool, calm and collected allows us to be accurate in our chess moves. Being angry is a great way to suck at chess.

Emperor-Bluto

giving online ratings creates addiction. then you rage on defeat.

StandStarter

rating is just a number, dunno why ppl freak and tweak over -8 elo after a game

Emperor-Bluto

guys can take it very seriously, they like to look at themselves through rose coloured glasses, the ego has to be boosted from the outside.
