Spent years in isolation "Fischer saved me"... that was 50 years ago.
How did you start playing chess?

The kid next door had a chess set and had learned how to move the pieces. He showed me and kicked my butt. I'm sure he was about 400 strength, but to me he was a master. I wanted to beat him.
And so it begins.

Started playing as Fischer was rising to WC. America was in a chess frenzy mode then and everyone (including my older brother who was pretty much a super jock) was playing or learning.
I unfortunately have stopped and started many times since then but I always have it in the back of my mind thanks to Fischer.
I believe everyone has a unique story as to how they started playing chess. Some learned from their parents, some from their teachers, some from their friends and some have forgotten where they had learned chess!
