Posting in the forum, or sending a message, or making a blog post, etc, each of those = 1 point.
How does the point system work?
Writing notes on members profiles, or club notes, posting comments in forums, creating forum topics and blogs
The points are an indication of the member's reputation. As everyone pointed out (😊), they accumulate through interactive deeds with the rest of the community.
We can deduce the aspect of reputation with this simple formula:
If any member has accumulated many points then they are active members of the community. The higher the points, the more active the member is. If the member is illbehaved, then their points could never have accumulated much because his/her fellow members would have reported it and staff would've then followed with swift measures such as closing the account. From this we can deduce that the higher the points, the more reputable the member is likely to be.
For a moment I thought the OP didn't know what ratings were!
I know what the dang ratings are

Why
I noticed on the very right of everbody's profile there is an amount of points. How does the system work, what helps give more what doesn’t help. Why are there people who have played so many games, yet still have no points. Is it rating, other uses of chess.com?
