How I Feel About chess.com Servers Down & Disconnects

Recently released by chess.com; here is their official post in regards to the server problems (just so everyone is updated)
https://www.chess.com/blog/CHESScom/chess-is-booming-and-our-servers-are-struggling
It's not even worth using chess.com until they fix all of the issues. Puzzles is fine when it errors out but I'm done playing any rated games for a while.

I’ll see you on Lichess!
it’s ironic and funny because I pay for membership lol

A resource issue caused by unexpected growth is a great problem to have! I'm sure Chess.com will get the infrastructure sorted out soon, no doubt. This is a good excuse to focus on puzzles, lessons, etc. and to save rated games for less peak times. Keep killing it, Chess.com!

Nice new account. What happened to your old one?

I don’t know…. you’d think with the profits they’re making they’d easily have proper space for their database, totally upgrade their stuff and handled this, years before the need now to be handled. The expectation of having as many members they’ve apparently lmao have, and some chicken. 😂

…with all their new mayhem of lmao profit they certainly should be able to afford getting this handled and you’d think fast! This is nuts, those ridiculous 502 messages! WTF CHESS.COM

I found out the "Error 502" and "Database overloaded" screens have the same solution: keep refreshing the page until it disappears. If you click the button that appears after the timer reaches zero, you'll be taken back to the home page, where you'll likely have it show up again when you try to navigate back to the desired page.

yes to refresh, no to that’s what they should do
…They very easily should be able to manage this especially considering their mass extra profits but this should’ve been thought about when they first began, that they’d certainly need plenty database space obviously, and lmao obviously 10 times more than they originally had hoped for. 😂

I decided paying Chess.com once wasn't enough, so now I can pay them twice... lol. Actually, disassociating from the old email/username for personal reasons. Is that okay with you, sheriff?

Sure, nothing suspicious about a new account buttering up a site that makes millions but can't keep the servers up.
Especially funny considering you can change your username and email under settings without the need to make a new account.

We call that shilling where I come from.

My bad, I should have assumed it was wrong to have a positive perspective. You toss around a phrase like "keep the servers up" like it's as easy as flipping a switch. Work a month in IT and you would share my understanding of their struggle.
I only ever played on mobile until recently, and changing username is in fact not an option on that platform. But I can assure you I would have the same perspective regardless of which account I was using. Good luck on your future witch hunts!

Oh, what's your role in IT? I'd love to hear your perspective!
Nobody said it was as easy as flipping a switch, but we'd hope that a company that's experienced massive growth before and has a yearly revenue over 70+ million would a) be better at forecasting and preparing for growth, and b) already know how to deal with it, hence that previous experience. ESPECIALLY given that they increased membership prices 5 months ago and we're paying up to $120 a year per person for "benefits" that other platforms offer for free.

That's the word for it, thank you!

8 years in IT, primarily in banking. Now a sys admin in the aviation industry... but I'm guessing the chances of you believing that are equal to the chances you would allow a perspective to be given that differs from your own.
No one is claiming this platform is perfect, that staff couldn't have been better prepared, or that they could've handled this situation better. I just choose to see all of this through a positive lens, because at the end of the day the growth is awesome for the game of chess.
Started playing chess 2 weeks ago. I love the game, rush into a premium account to study the games. More than 20 games disconnected its ridiculous. After my membership if the problem isnt solved i switch to lichess or chess24 and cancel my membership.
Just now, i get email notification that someone commented.
