how old do you have to be to join chess.com

 People start having it at 13.. so what would be bad about this site compared to them having it?

of course! didnt you know chess is rated PG 13?

I'm not saying it's bad or anything, but why can't younger players get to play on here? Is it a law or something?

What Chess.com should have is a playing area just for children. I like to recommend this site to kids, but at the same time hate to see the way a few certain adults act & talk here. Until they can control the few bad people here, and everyone talks as if they were in a room that had both adults and children together (I have never seen adults act like idiots in front of children in real life), then yes unfortunately i wouldn't want 5 -9 year olds here.  

isn't this obvious? the kids can beat the heck out of any of us any day. chess.com is a business. they want to maintain their members happy. members who cannot win are not happy members. straight forward, no?

Exactly, lol. It's for our protection, not theirs.

And every community has a village idiot.  The obvious reason you have a age restriction is because if you didnt you would have a bunch of pre pubescent teenagers running rampant on this site.

I REPEAT: Perhaps there will be a chess.com site for our younger audience sometime in the new year...

(get it?  I have heard that Erik might have something in the works...)

maybe its not for under 13 because of all the dangerous minds and influences on the forums

reading some of the forums and topics on the site i'd say we have been infiltrated by 7yr olds a long time ago? they keep starting topics about people who don't resign. . . . same topic over and over and over and over again !

This is what I found in the Terms Of Service:
