How to play when someone deliberately closes position?

Hi,

I got a question based on my last game. My opponent started to deliberately close position by avoiding exchanges at all costs so after few moves he effectively closed position and started to just maneuver. I got pissed off and tried to open the game, even thought of a piece sacrifice to break the closed center and get to his king. Long story short, I blundered and lost since I wasted tons of time thinking of ways to open game and started running short on time. I'm wondering what you guys do when you play against such an "extremely passive" player who tries to make you lose your temper and make a mistake. Could anyone suggest me some examples of how grandmasters play when facing such "geniuses"? Thanks!

Nice troll attempt!

I am not a troll and had no intention to waste people's time! Learn about being nice and not judgmental about people you don't know, I was asking based on my today's game!

I've edited my question to avoid confusing people in future. Thanks for pointing out at my incorrect choice of word!

It sounds like you have some pre-conceived ideas about closed positions.

It is not an "honorless" way to play, nor is it done in hopes that you will lose your temper and make a mistake. Closed positions are a perfectly valid way to play, and they have their own strategy.

It's well known that the best answer to an attack on the flank is to counter-attack through the center. Closed positions tend to make this impossible, so that flank attacks (and counter-attacks on the opposite wing) become the rule rather than the exception.

How should you handle a closed position? Why not look at a few Grandmaster games...

Here is Fischer playing Black against Korchnoi in a very closed game.

I prefer open positions like you too. Learn to play  close games. Be versatile.

Don’t let your opponent close the position off. He can only close it if you let him

If closed positions bother you. You know what to study "closed positions"

You don't.
