++ Yes, but with moderation. You should not study more than 20 books in your whole life.

If only one book, then an endgame book.
"Watching chess championships" ++ Yes.

"costing your life savings is an exaggerated matter"
++ A top book by a super grandmaster costs $20. Coaching by the same $200/h.
Hi guys!
I'm pretty new to the chess.com forums. Playing chess since I was 7, I came upon this website just recently after seeing geniuses like Magnus Carlsen.
So, what is this post about? You may ask. Today I came upon a question.
What is the ultimate beginning for a chess newbie? Is it taking an expensive chess course? Reading books? Watching chess championships or leagues and learning from the so-called 'Chess Geniuses' or grandmasters on this website respectively?
I think that 'reading books' or 'taking courses' that are costing your life savings is an exaggerated matter.
What are your thought on this.
