How to Stop Game Abandoning While Thinking

I was in a middle of a game, thinking about my next move. In particular, I was checking that I was able to do Nxe4 in the opening. Suddenly, the game started saying "You will auto-resign in 5... 4.. 3.. 2.. 1..." and then it just resigned for me and said I abandoned. I was actually there, thinking, and still had half my time left to play. This was very frustrating and my question is: is there anyway I can tell it not to resign? I was not prepared to make a move, is there anyway to tell chess.com "I am still here, give me more time to think"?

I’ve only experienced this when I disconnect from the game even though I can still visibly see the game. I don’t experience this anymore as my connection is much better. Perhaps you lost connection to the site or app?

Apparently, there were to many instances where people took far too long to make a move early in the game. So they set the first moves (5 or so??) on a timer based on a percentage of your clock time to complete the move. Bullet = less time than 10 minute game. No, you cannot change it. I tried to find the link but was unable to.

It's absurd, in some openings it is worth using half your time because the choice determines the course of the game. When it suddenly says "auto-resign in 10s!" it alters the game from blitz to bullet.

I agree! They could keep the feature but they need to add an option to say you are still there and need to use more of your time

Yeah that would totally solve it
