I torn- do I offer the O.P. some tips/hints, or do I challenge them to a game, to gain elo for myself?

You probably should quit Chess and take up another hobby. It's not for everybody. I took up correspondence Chess and vote Chess since I started losing a lot of OTB games to lower rated players.

I've had the same problem over the past few weeks, going from 1987 to barely 1800
if you find a cure to this poison please tell me ;-;
