Inactive accounts user names

The user name I usually use on various accounts has been taken here. No big deal. But the account is going on 9 years inactive. 

Do you guys ever do a purge of inactive accounts? 

Accounts are almost always tied to games or some content so they are never purged. As @Daniel2340 posted, support may rename an account so you can get the name.

The vast majority of inactive accounts are intriguingly 3 letter usernames, so steer clear from that. Other than that, surely mankind, being at the dawn of the third millennium and making ever yet exciting advances, should be able to come with some inventive usernames. Such as: MetaphysicalWukong.

The account was created in 2011, never played any games, and was last accessed a few weeks later. Maybe I'll get lucky.

Eric told me a few years ago the the staff was considering closing long-dormant accounts to free up user names.  Nothing ever happened.

There are dozens and dozens account names (especialy for live play)  associated with the same person.

How do you know they are dead?

apparently someone claiming to be his sister said he was dead. Idk if it's true or not. I don't see any solid proof
