Chess isn’t dead. Neither is chess.com. There is definitely going to be a decrease as the short attention span of kids gets the best of them.

agreed

No. chess.com has like double the members it had around the pandemic. It’s over 200 million members now; it’s probably just your friend group that is less active lately.

Yeah this is basically what I was going to say. A game I used to love feels dead now that I used to recognize 50% of the people online and now I barely play against one if any.

It used to be very active website a few years ago. All my friends are inactive too! What's going on??

The site is inanimate. The question is then are your friends dead?

Your club is inactive or doesn't fit your needs and style. You need to delete your friends by activity and build a relationship with the active ones whether they are weaker or not. It's an opportunity. I will send you a friend request and put a jump start on this for you. There is nothing more sad in my eyes than you believing Chess.com is dead or dry because your profile isn't getting viewed, your club is inactive, or you don't know how to manage your friends better. I'll also throw in a invite, so you can meet my friends and club members. We are a family who relies on each other for chess understanding and we are all online everyday. Then you will see the blogs, friends, matches, hall of famers, notifications, chats, live feed, notes, and the comments by the others!💙💪✨💫👋😎

You’ve been here since 2024, whereas I’ve been on chess.com since 2017. It’s sad to see many people come and go. I’ve had a lot of friends (some close friends too) leave over the years. Many have quit chess. I’m still here and I have no plans of ever leaving; chess or chess.com; I’m staying :)

I've dived too deep into the sunk cost fallacy for this godforsaken game to quit now. I'm 21 but I can already start saying the phrase "I've been playing for longer than you have been alive" to a lot of people online (playing for 15 years). I have to keep the streak going, so that I can start saying it to more people.
