Yes, this is something the Chess.com team is working on. Two of the major projects going on right now is the "live chess" and "live chat" features.
Great news. I think this site is one off the best and will be as big as ICC because it is free. Great works by Chess.com team.
It would be great if one day a chess.com team played in the Chess Olympiad. This site gives you all you need to improve your game.
I would love to see a live chat option on chess.com. There are times I would love to use it to throw something out to member opinion rather than post a bulletin. My wife and I use IM to communicate during the day, since she works for the superior court system here in San Francisco and can't always communicate via cell phone. As for a chess.com team at the Olympiad, anything is possible!
There's a chess channel (chatroom) on the EFNet irc server, though it's kinda quiet at times. Most people there play at FICS.
Having a chatroom on chess.com would be cool though.
