The same thing happens near borders of states that have different closing times.  And back before all the states had the same drinking age, it happened near borders between states with different ages.

When I turned 18, the drinking age in Michigan was 18, and 18-year-old Canadians (who had a 19 year drinking age in Ontario) came across the border to drink in the Michigan Soo.  About 6 months after I turned 18 Michigan raised its age to 21 with no grandfather clause, and everyone who was 18, 19, or 20 went back from being legal to being underage again.  So the 19 and 20-year-olds crossed over to the Canadian Soo to drink.

Lying drug companies, damn them! I detect that you are sending these missives from your mobile device (my Android messes up quoted posts too).

There are also still blue laws in many states that prohibit the sale of alcohol on Sundays.... again I dont know if this is unique to the South but most Southern states still have these laws ....

It's not.  In Michigan, you can't buy alcohol on Sundays until noon...when you get out of church!

@nick:  It depends on who you ask.  Most Marylanders would claim southern status, I think.

It ain't very far south, though.  Folks are weird, I remember an old-timer Okie referring to Oklahoma as, "Here, in the south."  I always thought Oklahoma was a western state.

In my own, weird like all other folks' mind, the south is:  Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi.  I apologize to the many Virginians, Floridians, and Tennesseeans that I've offended.

Abraham Lincoln violated the constitution soon after he was inaugurated by placing the governor of Maryland in jail without writ of Habeus Corpus, and by preventing the state legislature from convening. Someone please let me know if my facts are a little off.

The reason he did this was to prevent Maryland from seceding from the Union. If that had happened, Washington DC would have been in an undefensible position with Virginia to the south and a confederate Maryland to the north.

Right, the same town name on both sides of the border.  The Ontario Soo is about 75,000 and the Michigan Soo is a little over 15,000.
