Is sandbagging considered cheating?

I've come across a pretty strong player rated Bullet etc above 1700 in a Daily tournament I'm playing. However, his Daily rating is always below 1200 because of lots and lots of this before tournaments...

Is this actually cheating - or just considered bad sportsmanship?

You aren't allowed to discuss cheating in the forum and especially not to post things identifying individuals.

There is a club called the Cheating Forum for such things.

But in general, yes, sandbagging is against site rules. (Manipulating ratings.) You should report such things. (Use the report button on player profiles.)

I can hardly imagine anything more stupid or pathetic than deliberately losing chess games on the internet.

If you are doing it to win money in OTB tourn then yes it is, I do not know how it is thought of on line but it is very lame at the least

Is it intentionally losing games to intentionally lower your rating so you can enter competitions (for lower rated players only) you know you will win?

Daily rate is too much unreliable.

Cos, there are people who cant log in consistently for a few weeks or a few months .

Will you assume them as sandbagers?

I still don't know what a sandbagger is.

The cheating forum is private btw

A sandbagger is someone who throws games to get his rating down and qualify for prizes in a lower section against all the other sandbaggers playing down a section.

An example - I've recently seen is someone who threw 40 games in 1 day to drive down their rating - so they could get into a tournament. All the games are nonsense - 6 to 8 nonsense moves then resign.

I thought this sort of thing would automatically be picked up - but I guess not.

They accept anyone who's account is more than 30 days old - that's a simple precaution to deter return cheaters from joining and getting more info on how they may have been caught.

I applied and they very kindly accepted my application. Now I can learn about all these juicy cheating secrets lol
