I assume you know that in general-- the higher a player's rating, the better the player.

Ratings compare your win/loss experience to other players.

Your rating goes up if you win and goes down if you lose.

The site uses the Glicko rating system that includes a measure of rating uncertainty called the rating deviation (RD) value. Players with a high RD have uncertain ratings and will have larger rating changes after games. As more games get played the RD value drops as does the magnitude of rating changes.

I'm not sure if you can really sandbag here. You'd have to lose games to get a lower rating, so it's sort of like trying to run in water when you can't touch the bottom, lol.
