give it a day and then let me know what parts you most don't like :)

it's completely fine. I think it's actually an improvment from a marketing/business standpoint. I really don't understand why these people are going all crazy. but, I really like Times New Roman font.

Would anyone here agree with me that the chess.com has started to look more like facebook ?

.. That was my First Impression of the Change ... lol

(I guess  Everyone who uses FB will know )

And, just like Facebook, the designers apparently think they need to mess with it as soon as it starts working well.  "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"  Go back to the old look.

Kinda surprised that everyone was expecting things to stay the same forever - I am assuming that most of you are happy that computers and cell phones have evolved, and I bet no one is using a 3 year old browser to view this site.

A few thoughts on the redesign -

  • I don't mind the rounded buttons, pastel colors, etc. that give the Mac/WPF sort of look.  Does not affect functionality in any way, and from designing software myself (my full time job), I know a lot of people like that sort of thing.
  • The board images look great on the Online Chess page.  Allows me to skip the mouseover for every game.
  • The new homepage work, however, is not so good.  If you go to most any news site, you will see a header article in each category and then a few other popular/recent articles (i.e. pretty much the homepage look until today).  This allow a user, in particular a frequent one like me, to scan over the articles/blogs/news, see if they have read everything in the list, and if so, move on.  However, with the single article listed, a user will now be forced to click on each page, wasting a bunch of time following links around to see if anything new has been posted.  For free members, I guess this could generate more ad revenue, but for premium members, it both eats up additional bandwidth and wastes our time.
  • Though I am used to (from Facebook) seeing my home page redesigned a bunch of times, it appears the things I care least about (i.e. notes and tracked activity) are now given center stage while the things I care most about (i.e. the games I am playing) are off on the side.  Though some of the additional information is good, the organization does not reflect at least my priorities, though I am not sure what others might think about that.

Guys and gals!

I think the old designer was/is going to be fired, and a new designer had to do the web page from scratch (I say this because I have done web designing before - it is much easier to do the website from scratch than try to modify the old website). So have a heart - put up with the alfa and beta testings. Yeah, some of you are going to lose some games...

Enough already-- it's bad enough that you're posting your same crappy post in every thread you can find, but putting it up twice in a row is over the top.

Why change a good thing?  The new format is AAAAAAWFUUUUULLLLLLLLLL!

I agree, there are problems with the new format. Editing posts seems to be particularly buggy, with annoying random changes in formatting (just like Word used to do).

Where have the stats gone for everyone's total games (won, lost, and drawn)?

It used to be visible whenever you clicked on somene's name and their "Live Chess."

As the old saying goes, If it ain't broke, don't nuke it!  Or something like that.  It's too bright, the spacing's too wide with larger, unattractive fonts, play is very laggy, and the clicking noises are needless and unwanted.  Please just go back.  You were perfect before.

About  the new format of chess.com i have these 2 querries :-

1.How to find the vote chess games in order of their urgency ?Because the "My vote chess" option just shows the games finished till now !

2.Since it is impossible for those who play from their mobile to comment in their vote chess games ,then what they should do ?

I'm still stuck with the new format. How to fix?

You can't right now.  Themes have been disabled for a while.

Avatar of kco

I'll give it a 8/10 for the new look.

Thank you everyone for your comments here! We've read through nearly every comment and are working hard to improve things.

In an effort to consolidate all of the redesign feedback in one place, I've create a new thread here: http://www.chess.com/forum/view/community/new-site-design-feedback and encourage you to post any productive comments there. I'm archiving this thread so we can continue the conversation in one new thread.

Thank you!
