My name’s Jarrett Strickland, and I’m the proud dad of a 6-year-old chess player named Sav Strickland from Summerville, South Carolina. Sav started showing interest in chess when he was just 3 years old, and he’s been obsessed ever since.
He’s currently rated around 1100 on Chess.com, and already has some impressive results for his age:
🥇 First place finishes at several local quad tournaments
🥈 Tied for second place at the Tunnel Vision Tournament in Columbia, SC — playing against teenagers and adults in the U1000 section!
This December, Sav will have the opportunity to compete in the National Kindergarten Championship in Spokane, Washington — one of the biggest youth chess events in the country.
We’re doing everything we can to get him there, but travel and lodging costs add up fast. If anyone in the Chess.com community would like to help, we’ve set up a fundraiser here:

Every bit helps — even sharing the link goes a long way. Our goal is simple: to give this young player a chance to experience Nationals and continue growing through the game he loves.
Thank you all for reading and supporting young talent in chess.
