either way i'm happy, but the essential fact is to enjoy the game, ratings are secondary. i must have lost 30-40 games by getting disconnected, leaving me bitter sometimes(why wouldn't you, if u r 1 move away from mate and get d/c) but then thats also an experience in itself on how to manage ur disappointment
Live Chess Stats: A Painful Dilemna...

I would recommend keeping the current games and ratings, and if someone is really that unhappy about a number, they can just create a new account and start clean.

if chessnetwork (4200) agreed to reset his rating then im fine with u erik, but if he is not agree with u, i'll always by ur side erik, reset to the better live chess
but i think a poll is better to decide :)

Erik, Do what's better for the stability and functionality of the site.... There will be complainers no matter how much, and how many times, you explain the best options.
If I lose my live-ratings. So be it. It is not like I am a professional player anyhow. I believe my online rating will stay the same.... So what do I care. I am 1693 in my long rating and 1558 in my blitz... (Was hoping to make 1800 in the blitz by the end of August, but I got sloppy when I came back from vacation and lost 100 points in one day.) (C'est la vie. it's only a game....)
However, I feel that even if you reset, my live ratings will probably end up being about the same. So, what do I care? What I care about is how stable the system is. And whether or not I improve my chess skills.
I wouldn't worry about people's complaints. They will go away. And believe me -- the biggest whiners about how crummy the new system is will end up being the biggest defenders of it months down the road. Do what is necessary, and then sit back and (hopefully) relax.

I believe that you should do what it is best for you and your team. At any rate, I guess that keeping all those games, will mean a lot of room and storage investment.
If you ask my opinion, I believe that rating and stats are simply that... numbers and not really important as they may (and will) change. But the games archive is good to have it as you can check games against other players at anytime (I usually do, specially those already analysed by computer). My suggestion:
Any players who are willing to keep their games, a quick option to download all of them at once (for a given period before your staff remove all of them) and that's all.... (a couple of massive messages informing and giving basic instructions should work)

As many have said already, wipe the ratings as these will come back without too much effort, but please give us a chance to download or save our old games.
I have suggested in the past a seperate database where you could save games to that were from OTB or some other source (so a database that did not have any effect on rating or record). If that were in place all of us with live games could simply save them to that database and not have to download them.
I don't care about the ratings or the records, but I would not like to have all of my old games erased.

One thing that would be helpful is a down-loadable version of the game explorer on this website which people can store all their live chess games onto. I wouldn't expect it to be done if it was a potential knightmare in implementing. But if do-able I would not have any problem with the record wiping going ahead.

Hi Erik, I appreciate your keeping us informed of what is going on and your thought processes in making decisions, and even giving us the opportunity of participating.
I believe that you should just reset the entire system, including ratings, games, etc after giving everyone the chance to archive any games they wanted to keep. The ratings are not completely realistic even for those that have had the ability to play live chess without dropping games, because they have been the beneficiary of wins caused by dropped games. The ratings will then be earned by everyone under equal and equitable conditions. I do not play live chess alot, but I have been the recipient of wins and losses due to dropped games, and it is unfair for me to have an undeserved higher rating, and it is unfair to my potential opponent that may be expecting a better game because of my over rating.
I appreciate what you do for the site and the work you put in daily to make it better.
Mike

This is a very good point. If you'll delete game archives, there will be a lot more room on your servers, so you can invest (y)our money in improving the other parts of this already amazing site.
A lot of the games are unfinished because of the disconnects, so it's pointless at least for most of these games to keep them in your archives. I think you should delete them.

That's why I reckon a down loadable version of the games explorer with the ability to store all a persons live chess games would be beneficial to both sides of the argument. If offered for a few weeks before the switch. I have no idea as to how practical it would be to implement though, just a suggestion.

Wait, I'm going to lose 2469 games!
Oh, but they're almost all 1 min games, so they don't really count.
I'm ok with wiping the slate clean.

All LIVE CHESS Records and Ratings erased... OH GOD YES!!! My prayers have been answered! Thank you Universal Benelovence! Just tell me you're erasing the games... please... my hideous hideous live chess games... erase them won't you? I seriously wish there was an option to do this for an individual!

haha..those games were fun though.
Btw. if the ratings are getting wiped out please tell me as soon as possible cause then I can have some fun with my games :P
Anyway, I am more proud of my average opponent rating than my own lol

ok...i wasn't patient enough to read the comments above so what i suggest might have been said already...i suggest to send a message to all members who use live chess if possible and ask them to vote with a message...i think that most of people will say to fix itbut not to be unfair with the goods i suggest that when you bring the new live chess take the 10 best players from the current live and give them their past ratings if possible...i am especially talking about the player named chessnetwork who has achieved a rating of 4200!!!and it would be really unfair for players like him to start again from 1200
thanks,

an opportunity for all to practice beginners mind and abandon the duality of one game/ratings
each game can be enjoyed in itself -in fact i think there should be a room where we play with no names and no ratings as well as the main ladder
i have built up my ratings to modest levels but i really do not mind either way
