I would put a question when you enter Live Chess for the first time, maybe something like this:
Wins-***
Losses-***
Draws-***
[]No
I would put a question when you enter Live Chess for the first time, maybe something like this:
When you 'wipe clean' are archived games lost. They are critical to self-evaluation. I couldn't care less about the ratings.

Unfortunately that's the likely plan. All live games will be deleted, so download them before that happens. Apparently, the reason behind this is to reset the stats (which cannot be easily deleted without also deleting the games).
Personally, I'll live with bad stats if it means keeping the games--stats are just superficial numbers, games actually have learning value. Chess.com will comply with the majority, which seems to favour deleting the games (though I hope there is a poll so that they can be certain this is the majority). Still, it doesn't look good for the site if they deleted the games after making this claim:
That's probably one of the reasons why many people became premium members, lol.
There are a lots of posts here, I tried to skim and didn't see the answer to this question: Is it possible to take all the "old" games and lump them into a single pgn for each player, so that they are essentially deleted from the live chess rating system but our game archive has a link like "Download games from live chess 1.0"?
Here's the problem:
Some people are able to use Live Chess currently, and some are not.
Those who can have great ratings/records that they have built up over the last year or so.
Those who can't have losses from disconnects, underperforming ratings, etc.
So do we wipe the slate clean when we launch a more stable live chess? Or do we leave it as is. Either way we do it people will be upset.
The obvious answer is: let each person choose. But ah... not so easy. It is easy to do that with ratings, but not with records. All records (win/loss/draw, best win, highest rating, etc) are all compiled from the games counts of the actual games. So we either remove all of the past games (which clears everything but ratings), or we remove none of them (which doesn't allow us to reset things). And we can't remove some games and not others.
Alas, the dilemna. If we reset all, people who have built up records will be really really angry and might leave the site. If we don't reset, people who have bad stats due to disconnects might be really angry and might leave the site, and those who have already left due to how bad live chess is, will never return.
My current thought is that to maximize happiness we keep ratings, reset RD (so ratings will fluctuate a bit more), and remove all games/stats. Some will be upset, but it's a compromise, and will allow the greatest number of people to rebuild their stats (or come back to the site).
Thoughts?
The ratings are more important than the records....perhaps you could allow a window of time to save the favored games .
After all...we are a collective of thousands of players, and I can't see how its possible for everyone to save everything without it boiling over somewhere anyway.
There will always be more games to play and learn from...so it doesn't really make sense to hang on to every game we play anyway. and there is an old martial arts addage..."Learn and Forget." this game is to fluid to expect to remember everything we learn anyway. and when the time comes,,,we usually can recall what we need anyway.
I don't see why it's so hard to keep the old games for records purposes, and just reset all the ratings for the new incarnation.
Hi guys,
I am one of the guys that "WILL" be upset if you delete my rating and/or my games. I worked hard on my live chess to get my rating to a respectable level. I have spent hours over the chess board. I do not want either my rating or my games 'RESET'. So, I STRONGLY VOTE "NO" to reseting ratings or removing games.

Hi guys,
After reading many comments in this forum link I would like to address one of the reasons players are saying it is okay to delete my games and/or reset my rating. The main reason for saying this is okay is that, if I am a good player I will be able to quickly reestablish my current rating. This is a good point. But, but ...... but, doesn't this also apply to everyone. If you have a lower rating because of bad performance or disconnects, can't you also reestablish your rating quickly. I dont see how this reasoning justifies reseting my rating or deleting my games.

With the rate at which members play games around here I would have to think that no matter which method you choose everyone's ratings will wind up wherever they should be within a few months. If that's true, you have nothing to gain and only past games to loose by wiping everything clean. (I've only played a few live games and thus am impartial on this)
I personally won't care which solution you go with, the most important thing is a functioning site.
Hi guys,
Why not do a survey of this site, rather than make an assumption off of 74 comment on one forum?

OK, I've changed my mind.
If it will mean a better site with smooth sailing and with new options to sort and review our own games and watch the games of others, then I can happily part with my past games and ratings. Constant play will quickly re-establish both.

This is a survey.
I really don't care about my rating; It won't take long to get it back up where it is now. But please, whatever you do, please do it soon because I'm fed up of half-finished games on Live Chess version 1.
Again, I'll say that my feelings are indifferent to the scenario, though with a teetering lean towards wiping the slate clean. As this is JUST a set of friendly online stats, I don't see any reason why it should even be an issue. And the free-users really shouldn't have any say in it, either. I only purchased my Premium 1-year less than a month ago, but it bodes well with me that I have PAID to have a heard opinion in site development. In the end, the decision comes to the staff (like the electoral college), but should be influenced by giving what the [paying!] people want. And even if I have paid to have all of my games on here saved for eternity, I, for one, am actually happy with the fact that I'll just have to go back and play more and more to replace such a rating. In fact, with the experience I've gained at chess.com over the last 6 months, a "reboot" should make me able to get a higher rating than before! (at least in the beginning. It should eventually level back to a happy medium). Anyway, to grant a gist to my randomly rambling points, I'd like to just say that either decision would be a good one, as we are receiving a much better system on which to play live chess in the first place! This change is a good thing, regardless of the specifics! If the whining of those who simply are too lazy to go in and save all of their games and are afraid of wiping away an 'in essence' meaningless rating, outweighs the voice of the the others, then so be it, but I'll be satisfied nonetheless.
Big round of applause to Erik. (and kohai, i guess... )

They certainly should. Every free user is a potential paying member and alienating them is simply not good business.
Free users also bring thier fair share to the table -- both in terms of increasing the pool of available opponents as well as contributing valuable content to the site.
I'd imagine every paying member spent at least a little bit of time perusing the site as a free user.
let the individual person decide the if they want to keep their ratings.. the win/loss/draw records? who cares what happens to it...
