Lots of websites are shutting down comment sections, chess.com should too.

I've spent years reading online news stories and arguing with people in the comments and there's a trend now to start shutting them down.  People say they are too vile and hate filled.  The conversations almost always boil down to a bovine excreta throwing poop fight and nothing is learned and nothing is resolved.  Comments take too much man power to moderate and administer for what they provide so it is logical to start removing them.  Good reasons for shutting down the forum on chess.com:

  • It's mostly all children here arguing with each other, kids are generally really dumb, their brain's haven't grown enough to write any sort of coherent thought.  In fact if you're under 21 don't bother responding to this thread, you don't have enough life experience to make any good points.
  • Most of the threads here have nothing to do with chess and are just a complete waste of bandwidth and server space.  Global warming is fake, get over it.  Guns are good.  Liberals are wimps.  Now we don't have to talk about it anymore.
  • The chess discussions are trash.  What's better knights or bishops?  The Fischer worship is out of control.  Spassky would have won but Fischer is a cheat.  Knights are better.  Now drop it.

Shut it down.  GAHHH!!!!11  If you punk little kids want to chat about whatever stick it on your Facebook.

Without the forums, no player on the site would have ever learned that en passant is a legitimate rule.

Ya know...you and cancer boy don't have to visit the forums if you think they're garbage.

Mr. fast, the idea of a like or dislike for posts has been thrown around in the past. It may sound like a good idea, but it wouldn't work well here. Many members would simply click like for all of their friends' posts and dislike for those with whom they disagree, instead of actually stating why they disagree.

Shut down live chess instead!

under 21 and children are not the same thing. that's the first thing you should get through your head. children can be grandmasters, adults can be morons (it would make about as much sense to say that women are all terrible chess players). secondly, i guess even you could see the irony of creating a comment thread against comments. if you hate chess.com, get  out. i'm sure it would save valuable server space in the long run. play chess, have fun, and get better at it. nobody needs your narcissistic rants, so stuff them.

I don't think that Chess.com should shut down comment sections and forums because these allow the users to discuss interesting puzzles, chess games and ask chess-related questions and doubts. They are a huge part of Chess.com. I also completely disagree with you when you say "kids are really dumb". Here is a list of the best under 21 chess players. Top under21 USCF players. Would you call that dumb?

BTW, I'm 11

Would more people play chess if they couldn't comment in the forums?

Moderated forums are a great feature of many of my favorite sites.  Reading other peoples opions, perspectives and learning facts and knowledge through other ppl's experiences is great :D
