My problem is, I can never win games like this as quickly as possible. I always analyze them with an engine and it always says there are quicker ways to win. I can never figure out what the strategy is for these endgames. Do you have any ideas how to win these games as quickly as possible?

CelloBob2012

Rf2 and build a bridge!

brucepandolfini

LEGOMaster2 Excellent question. I will try to answer it next month. Thanks.

sp1234

How to win knight+bishop + king vs lone king?

brucepandolfini

That's a good question. Let's see if I can put it into words by the next column.

kleelof

What's the point of these theads? I've never seen you answer anything.

MuhammadAreez10

He's gathering info for what to teach in his articles and lessons and stuff.

brucepandolfini

kleelof Actually, I answered all 15 questions from last month. But the article was so long (8000 words) that it had to be broken up into two parts. The part with all the individual answers is being held for next month.

MuhammadAreez10 What a good idea. Just think how many valuable thoughts are generated from these threads? No doubt I could write (and sell) dozens of new books based on them. Thank you. I can't wait to take advantage of your very helpful suggestion.

RonaldJosephCote

Kleelof; I like you but don't insult Bruce. He's written 36 books.            http://www.chess.com/article/searchkeyword=pandolfini%27s+mailbag&cat_id=           He won't look at your "My System" threadWink

MuhammadAreez10

Bruce is a very nice guy indeed.

brucepandolfini

RonaldJosephCote Thank you. I probably shouldn't have written so many words for the last column. I got carried away a bit, and once I had started down that road, I couldn't quite stop. It was also unfair for the editorial staff (Pete in particular) who then had to read 8000 words, much of which wasn't particularly exciting. But I'll keep plugging away at it. We'll try to get it right, which means the right length and the right types of things to say. I do appreciate your support.

brucepandolfini

MuhammadAreez10 Thank you. Once again, I'll try to do better in the future.

RonaldJosephCote

No apologies nessasary Sir, I hold you in highest esteem.Cool I have almost all of your Q & A from chesscafe. I should start copying your columns from Chess Life.

brucepandolfini

RonaldJosephCote Thank you. I'm glad if some of it has been interesting or helpful. Most of it was fun to do.

kleelof

I see. It's not clear, to someone new to these threads, that these questions are answered somewhere else.

Doirse

What are the most important tactical themes in rook and pawn endgames (where both sides have rooks and pawns)?

brucepandolfini

kleelof The questions are answered at the end of the next month -- well, that's the plan. But I'm thinking that doesn't necessarily work too well. And the problem this month was caused by me since I answered the questions too thoroughly (actually, too wordily). That caused the column to be truncated into two parts, and that meant none of the answers appeared directly. So my apologies. The answers will appear next month. And we will try to work this out so that it meets the needs of the readership more. Thank you for expressing your concern, which was perfectly valid under the circumstances. If I had been a reader turning into the column, I too might have said: "where the heck are the answers."

brucepandolfini

Doirse Good question. I will answer it for the column on the endgame.
