Mediocre players falsely spamming reports

Sort:
Koroner
I can't believe what just happened: this Carlsen wannabe (his nick, not my words) reported me for "cheating" and this just because he suffered a most trivial knight check that evidently he failed to see.

And I'm even playing *mediocrely*, just like in many other games. Perhaps he was taken by surprise by the fact that I don't look like the average player he's used to play against. I'm actually a 16xx, but given the many past timeouts I dropped into the 14xx range (something I care little for, although the current rating really doesn't represent me).
Evidently this guy plays mostly people who have ratings lower than his so that he may easily win against them (because of blunders or something else).

The sad part is, I wonder if some innocent players were wrongly caught "using software" because of this user's continuous reporting, and that only because some of their playing patterns in the reported games matched those in the detecting algos (I don't know how they really work but I can make some guess).

I'm addressing the admins of the site: do something for players like this one because they degrade users' experience as much as cheaters do. Even, I'd say that I'd rather play against a cheater and not know it (because I only want to play the game and get better at it) than against some harassing loser who seeks to abuse the features of the site to his advantage when they lose.
Sorry if I seem to take this so dearly, but charging a guy like me with cheating is like charging the Virgin Mary with prostitution if not worse (a sensible image, but I searched on purpose for the most effective one).

And these people want to become good chess players... the world never ceases to amaze me (like the ones in Live Chess who let time run out, you know).
I already regret the 10 minutes or so that I've troubled taking the following screenshots and writing all of this.

If it's not true, don't worry about it.

Your opponent is mostly trying to upset you. It is evident that he succeeded.

Why don't you join the cheating forum?

I assume that people who make multiple baseless accusations are also discouraged by the staff.

Did you read the big article in December about Chess.com's anti-cheating efforts?

Posts like yours are just not allowed in the open forum.

Koroner's post is informative, as we all have had problems with bad losers who accuse us of cheating (I even had one opponent who accused me of hacking his account, and stealing his Queen,) and as such I believe this is the Forum for it, I am sure if it was not allowed (as you say) then it would be locked or deleted, he is not accusing anyone of cheating, just of being a bad loser, thanks for you input Koroner, I understand your frustration, as there appears to be nothing you can do about false accusations, so it may be best to try and not worry about it, as notmtwain says. As a long standing member of The Circle of Trust, I believe you would never have joined our group if you had any idea of cheating, and I have lost a number of enjoyable games against you, just enjoy your chess, as you know the truth.

I'm sorry if my words seemed to be a bit over the top, they were not meant to be so. This happens sometimes when you're not a native in a language and you try to express such feelings as contempt or astonishment.
So, believe me when I say that I'm not really that upset by what happened (regardless of how I expressed myself), and that usually I kind of cope with these things with a sardonic smile in my face (a sad one, actually). It's just that this time this particular player kept on playing his farce in the chat (I only posted the first few exchanges here), reiterating his "cold-uttered threats" (because this they appared to be) like he meant to obtain something by them. If you have a reasonable doubt that someone is cheating against you, why not simply report him/her? It's clear that such preliminary notices by this user are meant to scare people into resigning for fear of... I don't know, maybe because some of his opponents did make use of cheats before and they fear that the analysis would spot their past misdeeds. It's like he "tries that out" whenever he's about to lose or he makes some bad move. And maybe he's even won some games this way, what has him keep on trying. This is at least the look of it to me.

I posted this here because browsing through the forum's sections I found this one about the "Chess.com community" and... you know, it just seemed to fit in, as I'm reporting a kind of behavior shown by users which in my opinion is detrimental to the community itself.
In the end it could be related to cheating as to anything else, it's the player's attitude that matters here.
More practically, it was meant as a suggestion to the site admins regarding possible warnings and actions to be taken against people who abuse the site features intentionally.

Thank you for your supportive message. What you say is obviously true, and applies to any group or affiliation (of any kind) I'd ever be part of, virtual or real.
I also think that I made it clear what kind of move prompted this player into claiming I was cheating.
As I told him subsequently in the chat, if you think that an overt knight fork (on a pawn, even) forebears cheating, you've never seen actual good chess moves (and as I love tactics myself, I said that with a reason).

P.S.
The player moved earlier today, so I guess his report was rejected. Going for the next one, aren't we?

Enjoy your chess Antonio, I may even throw a challenge your way when my game improves lol

Pashak1989

Don't worry, I am pretty sure that if you are a clean player then absolutely nothing bad will happen to you.

And I hope they give a warning to all those sore losers that just throw baseless accusations left and right.

Koroner

Thank you Pashak.

Just for the record... he lost the game with me because of time, and I regret that. This is his first loss after a winning streak of 26 games in Online chess. He also boasts a 2000+ rating in Blitz now.

So it might be that this guy did not expect to be in a disadvantage against me and thought that I was cheating. But someone so strong must certainly know when someone's move is suspect or when he's simply played not that well (which is the case in my game).

Anyway, who cares.

If that was actually true, it should be allowed for sheer ingenuity.

@notmtwain - Do you have the link for the anti-cheat thread please?

@Koroner - I understand the playing and not playing. My game is all over the place.

DrSpudnik

When the site applies the cheater-detection software, it will show pretty quickly that you are free of guilt...or you're busted. There are endless threads in these forums of potzers claiming their opponent cheated when the offense was en passant capture or castling long. Forking with a knight also leads to accusations that provide a good laugh for one and all (except the OP).

In before the lock

Cherub_Enjel

This thread is getting locked any moments, but I should tell you - if you're not cheating, the chance that chess.com will ban your account is probably around the chance that you'll win the million dollar lottery.

Also - the block chat option is a thing.

That would make me smile too. But when someone who can clearly play the game charges you with cheating on a simple move (and near the endgame), it smells of some bad intentions. So I just tried to scare him with his very methods.

The thing is, after my comment he let the time run out in our game, and seemingly on purpose. Who knows... maybe he'll try his tricks (if such they are) a little less in future.

Sometimes a little reaction in front of others' actions can make much in this world. This is known to one and all (except maybe you).
