Kobe, don't you have a wife? Isn't she going to ask for another diamond ring if you keep this up?LaughingThat's pretty much all I've seen about Kobe Bryant

Relax. I'm old enough to be her grandfather.

True. Crosspinner chased me out of his watermelon patch when I was a kid.

Were you the kid that kept putting those M80s in them?

Gosh! What an old post -- and I only tonight saw it!! Well, I'm certainly not looking for romance on this site (especially as I'm married), but I must say I have found MUCH more than mere chess opponents here. I've made GREAT friends and have met several face to face. The first couple I met were people whom we invited to stay at our house for several nights. Husband and I realized that they COULD be weirdos, they COULD be thieves, they COULD be any number of things that we wouldn't have liked. But we were not going to dwell on the infinite negative possibilities. And you know what? They were WONDERFUL human beings and we had a GREAT time the few days they were here! (See my album "Chess Friends.")

The I met another friend who lived not far from us and we meet for OTB chess every so often. Great person, lots of fun.

And then there was another couple plus their mother/mother-inlaw whom we had as guests here on a couple of occasions. Wonderful people! (See my other album "More Chess Friends.")

Granted, it's a different setting from that which SoulForHire is talking about. Still, I'm all for promoting friendships. Caution might not be a bad idea, but I'd never turn down an opportunity to meet someone who sounds interesting on this site and with whom I have significant common bonds besides chess.

I'm much better looking in real life than I portray myself to be on here.  I just don't like to tell people this because I don't want all these girlz getting wild with me while I'm trying to concentrate on a chess variation.

BTW trysts, I'm still waiting for that rematch.

Thats great. I'm always happy to see people who find each other. However, the internet is full of people who live out a dual life, mostly pretending to be someone their not. My life's been great and interesting (at least in my opinion, so what you see is what you get. Of course, I married my childhood sweetheart so I have avoided the entire meeting potential dates and mates online business. I have made a few good friends on chess.com and have seen them through some tough times and vice verse. I always thought Chessmistress and Cheater1 would have made a great pairing. God help us if they met and had kids......

serchin4BobF

Yeah, I try and make it a priority to focus on people who create an alternative identity with chess.com, it really helps improve my game.

serchin4BobF

@Godspawn.  Can't I do both?  Why can't I meet someone on the net, take them to a bar, then take them home?

I'm sorry, serchin4BobF, I'm down to one game left, then I kind of want to take a breakSmile But, we've already played four times, wasn't one of those games a "rematch"?Laughing

Of course you can do both.  Im just trying to understand why paying for overprices drinks and, meetings someone, and taking them home is considered "normal"  But meet someone online and your considered a loner.

I can't help but wonder the same thing.  I'm am not a loner by any means and don't spend the majority of my time online, yet I feel that some people are having a good laugh over this and their perceived notion that anyone that agrees to meet someone from the internet is a loser.

Were you watering his crop?  You probably ruined it.  I don't get why your type has to portion out your widdles in a dozen different spots instead all in one place like more rational species.

Suit yourself, I guess I'll just have to go find another girl to play with.  Frown  I would ask S4hire, but she's probably playing with her new BF.  Boo Hoo.
