Membership Credit?

I just noticed that I have a "membership credit" which subtracts money from a membership purchase. How did I earn this, and what can be done to earn more?

Also, if I were to upgrade my membership, would what I already paid for my gold membership (I paid for a full year three months ago) also be subtracted from the upgrade cost?

Ooohhh. I think it just dawned on my. My membership credit IS the cost of my current membership being subtracted from upgrade cost. So I can't earn more. Is that right?
