My argument with a member... for the bulletin!

I agree that the premium membership page should clarify that Master's Bulletin is not included.

Obviously Bulletin is a great product. I think it's hard to sell because chess suffers from "too much information." Too many books, too many magazines, too much material makes any particular work harder to sell.

Bulletin is better than the other magazines but I think it will just take time for everybody to understand that.

Maybe include one issue for free each time someone purchases annual diamond membership to give Bulletin more exposure to those serious about chess.

When I know that people WANT it but are only missing out because of the membership confusion itself, we will change it yesterday

I wasn't confused, luckily - I understood that the bulletin was separate, with a separate fee.

Mr. Rensch, may I borrow your time machine? Tongue Out

it totally makes sense that the bulletin is separate. more surveys such as the one given in one of the free version magazine by smeets on the central attack of the ruy lopez would be nice. :-)  [there was a survey in May's edition in addition to some opening analysis in the annotated games.]

also, avoid redundancies as much as possible!!! if you found your way to the bulletin, you're probably already fully informed about articles/blogs/news on the main site.  i know i am and i find repetition irritating.

re: news:  i prefer more chess-improv related news/materials rather than chess pop culture news.

but, a section about chess initiatives around the world might be interesting... new and unusual and fun approaches to studying and enjoying chess, etc.  something to expand your chess horizons [kind of like Vsauce and SciShow do on youtube on understanding the world around you].  a sort of master class annotated game maybe would be interesting (like the gibraltrar analyses).  already i think the annotated games in the bulletin are quite good.  i like especially when players annotate their own games (kind of like pruess did in his blogs of old).

100% agree.

It looks like a fairly straightforward situation.

As far as I can tell, there are three "products" offered by Chess.com.

1) Videos/chess mentor/tactics trainer

2) Chess.com University

3) Master's Bulletin

Diamond membership gives access to #1, and the other two have to be purchased individually.

The solution is to change the wording on the membership page so that it is obvious that you are not getting "all" features.  And then probably, you should add a bundled subscription so that an ambitious member could sign up for more than one thing all at once.  The result will be more clarity for the signing members, more publicity for the extra features, and probably more revenue for the website.

Cheers.

Also, there should be a banner for the Master's Bulletin on the home page of Chess.com.

How does the advertising for the Master's Bulletin work? Only way I've heard about it is through some forums and articles. There should be an easy way to hear about it. I mean the study plan directory can be found quite easily under the "Learn" tab for example.

And btw, talking about the study plan directory we are still waiting for advanced study plans... Maybe it could be good to provide a link to the Master's Bulletin there instead of just saying that the advanced study plans will come eventually.

Thanks to all for the feedback here. We will be updating the membership page at some point. For now, I challenge anyone to join our group and submit their game for a Member Analysis review by Dzindzi!
