My parents are stopping me from playing chess

The easiest solution is to spend very little time on screen. For example only 30 minute everyday. Even if you need to spend more time, split them into small ones. Then your parents shouldn't have problem

As a parent, I hate to see my kids stooped over any device.  Try to only play on a large screen that allows you to be further from the screen.  I do think looking at a small screen from 12" away for hours a day may not be good for your vision.  Also engage in activities that utilize your distance vision a bit.

Maybe you should only spend time on your laptop for only 30 mins like what Fayez said.

After you are finished you do your homework (if you have any) so when your parents come in, they see you not using the Laptop`

If my daddy told me to stop playing chess on the computer I'd listen.
Because if I didn't, he'd make me go to work with him and dig a bunch of holes.

Every dispute in America ends in court. Sue your parents for, I'm not sure where I got this figure from, but something like, say, $100 Million. To bolster your case, tell the judge they're starving you of food and locking you in the basement 24 hours a day. When you walk into the courtroom wearing your new glasses and playing on your portable chess set, don't trip over a chair and fall face first, cos that's gonna harm your chances. happy.png

I won't start a case for such a small thing, I only want a solution to this

You began on this site in february 2020. After over two years and a half "passion", you're at 1400...

Your passion is not Chess, your passion is playing. Which is every kid's passion.

You may consider your parents will be saving you from a sterile and childish passion.

I almost didn't play at chess.com for a year, I started playin on lichess and reached 1900 there. My passion is not half, I have played in National games for your kind information mr.

TV's and computer screens produce harmful blue light which can damage your eyesight with too much exposure.  Luckily you can get glasses which block the bad blue light.  If chess is your passion, and it sounds like it is, then limit your online playing for now, and try to get a pair from the internet.  Also check around to see if there are any chess clubs near you, maybe school or not far from where you live.  Playing over the board is different from online games, but I think ultimately more satisfying. You have options, though it might take a bit of time and looking.

1900 on Lichess means peanuts. I reached 2300+ there in no time at all. If you want to do what you want, you need anyway to be your own man, independent and all. Wich means to be an adult with a job. For now, you're taking the path of ending up a homeless guy, for playing chess will give you no proper income.

And well, "passion" is an excuse in books and movies only.

I know, I won't make chess my career but still it's my passion

True, screen time does reduce the effectiveness of the eyes, yet it is the only way of getting worthy and a variety of opponents. Try playing chess with your family members and friends more instead of practicing online if your parents worry that much.

Not just chess so that I can keep a healthy body and intelligence.

Being in good shape physically helps supply the brain with plenty of oxygen, which improves your mental functioning.  Keep your body fit, but also exercise your brain and with a bit of luck you can live a long and healthy life, and play chess for a long, long time.  Good luck in your endeavors.
