I have been receiving some annoying notices since meebo was integrated. Not sure whether it is a security issue but I would like to have the option of removing it.

mistermax

I don't mind the ap per se, but I find that my screen loads are hanging while waiting endlessly for a response from meebo.  This could have many explainations, but for now I have turned it off.

Gert-Jan

I like it. Its a good extra feature.

kokakola

I'm glad Noscript works and blocks this feature. My condolences to the Internet explorer users of this site.

when I first saw the feature - and used it - I thought great !! But then I was getting logged off every time I submitted a move, and hit with windows advertising facebook an' twitter an' all kinds of junk. Whatever came with it affected my windows to other sites as well and I had to shut down entirely more than several times, leading to time-wasting re-booting and some lost data, because either the intruder or my fire-wall froze the system - bloody thing cost me three hours of faffing about yesterday - we're not all terribly 'au-fait' with this internet malarkey thanks a bunch!

Very happy that someone gave me the right address to block - thank you !! SmileSmile

You're premium, you can just disable it in your privacy settings. :)

ppera011 and I are in agreement. This is a chess site, correct, not a social network site such at Facebook/Myspace? Let us keep the focus on chess.com and not on the/this extraneous pop culture feature(s) that don't add to the core of the site.

Is it?
This is as every bit as much a social site as it is a chess site, or rather it's a melding of the two concepts.  I am an extremely active member who never played more than a couple games here until recently when Live Chess 2 rolled out, though I've been here almost since its inception.

That said. . .
I'm also not a chatter. I have no friends so I didn't really have to disable the feature, but I did anyway as a fail-safe. It took about 10 seconds.

That said. . .
It seems many people do like to chat while here and enjoy this feature - so it must have a certain value. How can anyone complain about having a valuable option even if they don't use it? Is that selfishness? I don't know.

That said. . .
From the best I can determine, the majority of people who do seem to complain are non-premium members.  I suspect this may be because they can't turn it off through their privacy settings. But since they were given instructions how to block it through IE, FireFox and Opera, I can only construe, though honestly maybe unfairly, that complaining in this case is simply a form of laziness.

Kacparov

I disagree

mooro-gates

Yeah amazing! Thanks so much!

Agreed. There are already a gazillion sites for social networking. This site is called CHESS.com after all...

blackfirestorm

I am a real chatty player as well as wanting to learn from this site but I have been bombarded with messages off 100's of people so far and right at this moment in time I am considering switching it off permanently.

For those that solely want to chat yes I agree this is a cool app but in the long run it will get on peoples nerves just as it has done with mine.

We do have to bear in mind though is this a chess site?? yes!! Do people want to chat?? yes!! What would be a better solution for all?? not this that is for sure ...

My suggestion would be to install a feature that allowed live chat actually in groups or even in vote chess games. This would be particularly useful for speed vote chess!! Just my thoughts!!

Meebo.com has chat rooms. One thing would be cool would be a chat room for groups, perhaps created by the group super-admin?

I'm in one particularly chatty group, so it would be good for that one. The other groups I'm in are not as chatty, so this might make sense on a group-by-group basis.

Yes ... maybe have it so that if a group / team want this option then they can change it in the group settings where an admin can alter the profile etc?!

This is something I have wanted ever since joining my very first group and even now to this day I feel it would make a huge difference if this "personal IM" became a group feature!!

I like to chat as well as play and I think most of the people in Live Chat are like that. I was one of those who asked for the return of private and group chats. But meebo.com does not seem to me to be an effective solution because it separates chat from chess. Chat here was interesting because you could use it during or in between games, while observing games etc. It was the connection with chess that made it attractive. I never go to sites that are designated for chat only.
