New Site Design Feedback

The "new comments" link on my home page sends me to wrong places.

A comment was made that 1 day was too soon to cancel as owners listen to feedback. I've been here long enough to know is utter BS

what's BS - that we don't listen? come on!! :) i've read more than 2,000 forum comment threads and sent hundreds of personal messages in the last 2 days alone discussing with members how to improve the site. find me another website owner of a site with 5 million members who does that :)

Most of those messages were probably something to the effect of "shut up, it ain't going to happen."

Just because you comment on here doesn't mean you've read everything.

Innovation and progress!  Now erik is one fine young American.  God Bless.

This is surely a campaign move. Mitt Romney probably paid erik to change the site, hoping it would attract more people, so they could all gather around to hear his political b.s. and be brainwashed into voting for  him.

I knew that there was a conspiracy with erik telling us to shut up, sit down, and stop complaining because we weren't going back.

the link works now

Whilst I wasn't so keen on the member's homepages/profile layout/design I think the chess.com homepage looks really good...  a great improvement.

chess_kebabs

Reason I like the chess.com homepage much more is there is some decent contrast going on there.. lots of light and shade. Looks good.

One thing: I think some people are seeing a different site than the rest of us, because of old browsers. For kicks I checked the site out in IE6, and it was like Hiroshima. Now, granted, I think anyone who uses IE6 should be publicly flogged, but still, cross-browser issues like those may be why some people literally can't use the site at all.

Natalia_Pogonina

Somehow I can't leave any comments now using Firefox. Have to switch to IE to post.

On a positive note, with the new design I noticed I have 1015 friends at Chess.com - wow! Smile

chess_kebabs

I've had to clear my cache more often on the new site than the old site.

chess_kebabs

hey, who's cache you calling old Brad! lol

chess_kebabs

cache sera sera!

chess_kebabs

That still looks like a straight face to me. :p

I am using chrome. Font size 14pt.

This is orange . . . This Italic orange . . .

This blue . . . This is Italic blue . . .

This is red . . . This is Italic red . . .

Chrome 18.0.1025.142 m

This is bold orange... This is bold/italic orange

This is bold blue... This is bold/italic blue

This is bold red... This is bold/italic red

Now I will post it and see what happens.

RESULTS. . In my posted the italic red changed to blue.

In my comment box this is Italic Red.

So there is a problem here. I posted a piece and I thought I had made a mistake but the changes were being made by the new code.

I will forward this to Erik.

In Firefox11

Italic Blue. Italic, but just black.

Site Wars: Return of the Java

Luke: Obi-Wan? Why didn't you tell me? You told me Erik betrayed and murdered my Site.
Obi-Wan: Your Site was seduced by the dark side of the Force. It ceased to be Chess.com and became Chess.com... New and Improved. When that happened, the good site you played on was destroyed. So what I told you was true, ...from a certain point of view.
Luke: A certain point of view?
Obi-Wan: Luke, you will find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view. Chess.com was a good site. When I first knew it, your site was already a great engine. But I was amazed how strongly the Javascript was with it. I took it upon myself to train it as a chess player. I thought that I could recode it just as well as Yahoo. I was wrong.
Luke: There is still good in it.
Obi-Wan: It's more glitch now than machine. Twisted and evil.
Luke: I can't do it, Ben.
Obi-Wan: You cannot escape your destiny. You must face Chess.com again.
Luke: I can't kill my own site!
Obi-Wan: Then the Erik has already won. You were our only hope.

Is there not a way to look for 'game analysis' or 'game showcase' in the forums anymore, or am I being blind?

SMCB1997

Just a bug here - when I go to post a topic and insert a game diagram, it loads and just says 'error on page' in the bottom left of the tab. Obviously something wrong here?

himath2009

So, here is another bug:

The Teams Recent Activity Window (which survives to the detriment of the independent and very useful Forum Activity Window we used to have in the old version)  is not changing the order of items according to the most recent comment posted in any of its components.

This means that if an important forum has been initiated 6 months ago, even if it is continuously updated, it remains hidden many pages back and it is not brought to the attention of Team members. In the old interface, as soon as something was added to a forum, that forum came up on top in the window and everybody could see that it has changed.

By contrast, today I added a new comment in a forum of my Team which deals with Opening Mistakes, an educational forum read by many of our members.

http://www.chess.com/groups/forumview/lambdathetaeta-alphanuomicroniotagammamutauomeganu?lc=1#last_comment

But nobody can see it on the Team home page, which means that to members who have not activated tracking (eg. new ones), it will be all but lost.

I have commented before on this, I think it is important but I do not know if someone is listening...

Sorry guys, not a big fan of the new look. The old school one is much easier to navigate and is just simpler. This one just doesn't do it for me. Sorry.

I'm pleased, Eric

So it's best to please the one who will suit your self-interest and corruption.
