I don't see what IQ has to do with anything, and I still can't understand why people think they're being clever if they bring it up.

IIRC, IQ is the measurement of general problem-solving capability.

Perhaps the more autistic we are, the better we play? I'm HFA, and rated 2351 (chess.com).

this proves I’ll never be good at chess 😔

IQ score is the measure of a person's ability to score well on IQ tests.

Now, I don't think so. Also, a lot of chess players are spotty. I noticed that quite a bit too.

Haha. That is a word I would not have thought of. I might say something like incomplete.

Then you're no chess player

I’m afraid that means you are not a chess player, sorry

I can repair hundred-thousand-dollar military simulators by banging on them with a metal pipe.

Am I a chess player?

Am I a chess player?

Only if your pipe is vertical horizontal diagonal or L shaped

No

You're a Blue Emu.

The pipe was in fact vertical. It was fixed to the wall.

I was asked to examine a $150,000 dollar combat simulator that had gone completely dead. I put it on the work-bench, plugged it in, and hit the power button. Nothing. Peering in through the ventilation slots, I could see that there weren't even any LEDs glowing on the motherboard. There was no power at all. I cursed, unplugged it, and spun it savagely around, intending to unscrew the rear panel. As I spun it, one corner hit a vertical metal pipe mounted on the wall. WHAM!!! Everyone in the room jumped, and gave me horrified looks... $150,000, remember. I plugged it back in, and hit the power button again.

It booted right up, just like new.

So technically you hit the pipe with the sim.  Not the other way round. Castling does that to you. You must be a chess player

According to the way many people seem to be reacting to recent events, perhaps chess players, as a group, have a lower than normal IQ, on average.

Discuss!

Where did you get your samples from? This site?

Fair question. So I was an extremely active player on the local club and tournament circuits for 30 years. I often played for three clubs at a time, in various leagues around Lancashire, Manchester and Lancashire in the UK and and 20 tournaments per year, as well as county matches. Also this site!

I'm LFnon-A and sometimes I can play well and sometimes I can't.
But I'm improving slowly.

With respect to the OP, you haven’t posted a link to the study. I might like to read it, i might not. It depends on my mood. Am i disadvantaged because i play chess? I’m not sure how or why that would be a logical conclusion. I certainly don’t play chess as a surrogate for solving real world problems. I just simply enjoy playing the game. I play quite poorly compared to many. Truthfully i play quite poorly most of the time, but occasionally come up with a win anyway. At my level it can happen about 50% of the time.
