The classic VS computer is gone! The new board is smaller. I can't find Komodo. Please allow the option of playing the computer as we did in the past.

Nice features. Any ETA on iOS version?
It went into review about 20 minutes ago, so if we all cross our fingers, it could be just a matter of hours!
Suggestions re: bots...
1) Implement a more 'natural' playing pace for the different levels of play, stages of the game, etc. Instead of the bots instantly making moves, have them take a few seconds here, a long think there, maybe blitz out the first few opening moves, then take a while for the first few moves after book, stronger players moving faster than weaker players, etc, This would give those of us who are just starting to play live games a better feel for how the pace of "real" games against human opponents will go.
2) Give us the option to play the bots from book & custom positions. There are positions that I'd love to get more practice playing, but don't see all that often in my correspondence games. Being able to set up specific positions would effectively give me the ability to drill those positions against increasing (or varying) levels of bots.
1) Interesting! Indeed we did make adjustments to randomize the apparent "thinking" time and humanize the experience somewhat (including speeding up if a Bot gets into trouble during a timed game). You're still finding they move too fast / too consistently in general?
2) We are fixing the "Finish vs.." feature in Analysis so that when you hand an unfinished game or custom position over to the Computer you can once again adjust the AI you are sparring against.
Sounds like when all said and done, the new AI playing experience is going to be fantastic!
Thanks to all involved.
This is utterly horrible. I have been playing the computer very single day for years when I eat breakfast and this is so horrible. Just to have little cutesy avatars, do chess players need that? How do you restart a game. Every time I go back to the website it starts me at my old game which I don't want bc I want to change the configurations. When I try to turn off the legal moves option, it doesn't let me. Just horrible. So disappointed.
It is awesome. I am very happy about the upgrade.
I just had problems promoting my pawns in a game against Wally so you may have a bug there.
But overall I am very happy about the upgrade.

Works great! Thanks!
...You're still finding they move too fast / too consistently in general?...
In my opinion, Yes. I've played two quick games since the feature release (admittedly, a small sample size), and in both the bots consistently made moves in "0.1" seconds.

Again... blitzing out opening moves? Sure. Playing faster in the ending and/or under time pressure? Sure. But I suggest making the time to move more variable/human between the end of book and the endgame/time trouble.
Absolutely love this new feature. Thank you so much. I am guessing the bot personalities are from the wonderful new Komodo 14 chess engine, which has multiple playing styles, adjustable elo and other variables for fine tuning, which I bought on my own and had been using on my own in Aquarium in recent months. It’s great to have a collection of pre-set online bots apparently based on these features. Makes for great variety and stimulation.
I just beat 14 of them. XD
I noticed that when in distress, the computers will move their bishop to the row above your pawns, letting you take it. It makes no sense, but this has happened three times. I have screenshots.
Another thing: the bots commentary is a bit off... two examples. First of all, when they play white, the move first and act like they have no idea what they just did. For example, one girl said, "What's this?" after her first move, yet it would only make sense if I moved first.
A very similar issue happens with the pawn moving to the other side of the bored. Sadly, it can't be fixed; the opponent (example: Mina) will say, "Want a knight?" which makes no sense since you chose before she said that.
Other than that, I find much of the commentary humorous and I love it!
When you take moves back and then try to play a different move it screws up the whole game. This new stuff is complete nonsense. There was nothing wrong with the old 'vs computer' platform. At least have the old 'vs computer' as an option alongside this new child-friendly version. I don't need to pretend I'm playing a real opponent like it's some boxing game on a Nintendo, I know I'm playing a computer. You've taken a sophisticated feature and infantilised it. And the fact it doesn't even work properly makes it all pretty shabby in my opinion. I'm going to look for another site, and might look in again in a few months' time to see what's new (probably My Little Ponies for knights and animated fight sequences popping up when you take a piece).

"vs computer" is an option
If you scroll to the bottom of the opponents list, you can select a regular/classic-style Computer opponent (with levels from 1-25). Once you play vs the Computer, it will appear at the top, above all the other opponent pics, with a slider to choose the level of difficulty.
Also, by choosing a Custom game, you can adjust the interface (add/remove the evaluation bar, analysis, engine lines, etc.)
I hope that helps bring back some of the "Classic" feel.

Hmmm... But these games must have been played in Live Chess / Play (Beta) to have time-stamps, I think. The only place we added artificial "human" move timing is at /play/computer (and in the mobile apps' Computer feature).
I find the experience at /play/computer quite different, with a fair amount of variety in the Bots' move timing.

Why not use that same artificial timing site-wide? Why limit it to only /computer?
nice i appreciate the hardwork
