This puzzle makes a regular chessboard look really small. :D

Yesterday, I accidentally posted a couple of (wrong) solutions on a Pawn Sacrifice movie thread...people were like, whaaat?!?Laughing

Javeir...I still have no clue how to create one of these puzzles...is there a software that I could use? I wanna make one for fun.

Just use any graphics editor of your choice. I made them using Corel's paintshop.

Thanks Javeir! I'll try making one...

Knight to N2 leads to mate, right?

JavierGil

The "missing mate" was this: 1.Qq16+!! if now 1...Kxq16 then 2.Qo16#  if black takes on q16 with his Q or N, then N014 is mate (note that black's Q would be pinned on q16 by the u18 Rook or that the King can't go to either 016 or P15 if black chooses to take on Q16 with his Knight instead, as the White Queen on X7 controls the x7-016 diagonal.)

BirdsDaWord

Javier, seems maybe this is the way to do these puzzles - with a M1 for us noobs, and with more complicated mating patterns for the lesser noobs :P

There are typos in the explanation above.

It's very confusing, and has nothing to do with noobs or sychophants.  Sorry to inform.

Anything that can be said, should be said clearly.  Get with the program, please.

JavierGil

Fixed. Kept thinking about the "eight rank" rather than the 16th.

Yeah I spotted that one. I can't find the mate in one though. Hard.

What a great idea for a forum!

FYI, the "mate in 1" was provided by @Trysts, in Post #17.

aman_makhija

Yes, bu† what if he wants to solve it himseelf?

chepharhaammonnai

How do we know if there is a solution? Don't want to know the answer, just wanting to ensure we are not wasting time.

There is an answer in post 17. Attempt the puzzle and then look if you want.

There is also a mate in 2 in #41.

Commander_Crunchy

There are at least 5 forced checkmates in 2 in this puzzle.

aman_makhija

Nn2+ leads to mate in 2.

Add that to the list.

Commander_Crunchy

How does Knight to N2+ lead to checkmate in two moves?

If the Rook on N1 takes N2, there's no checkmate on the next move.

aman_makhija

True.

mthomasetc

Rxn16#. I'll now look at the comments to see that I have missed something obvious. Nice challenge either way.

mthomasetc

Oh dear, d16 rook. It didn't take long for my blunder to become apparent!

britishquaker

I keep seeing mate in twos but I can't spot that mate in 1 yet... I'll keep looking.

Bilbo21

Rxn16?
Good puzzle
