Someone here friended me then challenged me to a 1 move per day game. I accepted the challenge and it would seem that the computer made my first move for me. I'm White. It let me pick my second move thankfully. Does anyone know why this happened? Remember, I did say that I'm a noob so please be gentle lol....

I only posted this once so I have no idea how it appeared twice.

That's premove, I believe. I've never done one but I think those with payed accounts get the option.

In live chess you can premove, where you can select your move for your next turn even if it isn't currently your turn. No matter what your opponent plays, your selected premove will occur unless it is illegal. In daily chess, you can use conditional moves (only for website, not app). Conditional moves are when you can set your response depending on your opponents moves.

I hope that made sense :)

Thanks everyone. This only happened on the first move of the 1 move per day game. Even though I was White, my first move was picked for me. I have been able to choose my own move each day since.

It's not the only explanation. In some games the first N moves are predetermined. For example, there may be a tournament where everyone is playing the King's Gambit accepted and therefore the game starts after 1. e4 e5 2. f4 exf4

It's possible something like this happened.

Thanks. I'll watch for that if I ever enter a tournament.
