30 minute games might be a problem, but if you want slower games there are dozens of groups that are spinoffs of the Dan Heisman Learning center that have regularly scheduled tournaments:

The problem of relatively long controls is that there are cheaters playing. Blitz is less influenced by cheaters both because it's harder to cheat in faster games and because even if you meet cheater in blitz, it won't cost you much time.
What you can do is
1. Play correspondence chess without using analysis board.
2. Play in Slow chess league - http://www.chess.com/groups/home/slow-chess-league
As I'm approaching 1500 standard(30 minute) rating, i notice that realistically the highest rated that players go is around 1699, i.e. there aren't players over 1700 who play regularly 30 min standard. I know that blitz has higher rated opponents, but i feel that since i want to play in tournaments and hopefully become a master, playing 5 min games won't really help me win 75 minute tournament games against say 2200 rated opponents. What should I do? any ideas are appreciated, thank you.
