Just curious but if you're checking out the forum and you see a topic that looks interesting, not compelling, just interesting that you've not previously looked at, do you check the number of posts in that topic before deciding to read? For myself I find a new topic with over 20 posts and sometimes as low as 10 probably not worth the effort of trying to catch the wave. For those older topics I've not seen, that suddenly jump to the top of the topic list because of a new post which brings the total into the 60's+ there is no thought at all, time to move on. In addition, when looking through the forums I only check the first page, what about you?
As to a practical outwork of this question in some topics like: Improvements to Chess.com where the count is up in the hundreds and multiple topics are covered under the one thread are difficult to use and it might be time to start a new one "Improvements 2" "Improvements Jun 08" "Suggestions Summer 08" and so on. Just another thought.
