Obnoxious idiots on here?? I don't believe it!
Obnoxious idiot
really? then I must be delusional.. I have yet to come across one person who says gg or thanks for the game ,,, why do you have names , if you don't even heave the decency to acknowledge someone.

What you shouldn't do is sink to their level. People are going to be rude no matter what, but you don't have to act like they do. Anonymity brings out the worst in people. Just ignore it and block whoever bothers you.

ok
well I think I'm able to play chess without losing my cool.
the key ofc is to remember its just a game.
When there are no civilities among people ,, you might as well say the world is finished ,,, as it soon will be if everyone adopts these attitudes...Whats the point of living if we all hate each other?

May some native speaker explain to me what 'obnoxious' means? I looked it up 1000 times into the dictionary and I don't want to do it 1001st time ;)
Hello MSC157. In this context, it just means rude. An obnoxious person is someone who you can't bear to be around.
My first game on here, my opponent opened up the chat with %**# you you %**#& or something like that. Continued to abuse me and then quit when the game went against him. I just found it funny. Start the ball rolling OP. For every 100 GG's you post, 1 person will start doing the same and the good will will spread. Think I'll start myself.

I've found that people that are mean spirited (rude, etc). Usually are very sad people. Feel sorry for them, and try to respond just the opposite. I know this can be easier said than done. However, it is their problem, and not yours, take encouragement in that fact.

" An obnoxious person is someone who you can't bear to be around".
Gives depression a whole new meaning LOL
Goes both ways really. There are people like me to whom those who take offense and whine about the lack of "social etiquette" during a game of chess come across as mentally handicapped idiots (not including the OP since it's not clear to me whether (s)he is trolling or not).
The obsessive whining about a lack of "etiquette" among chess players in this forum is beyond bizarre (oftentimes, amusingly ironic because those accusing others of "rudeness" are actually being much more rude themselves). Not sure if this phenomenon is exclusive to this website or rather symptomatic of a certain demographic of chess players who feel entitled to earn more flamboyant displays of "respect" just because they play chess. Or maybe chess simply attracts a lot of neurotic folks... Funny and weird.
How do you play chess without becoming one?
Something everyone here might take lessons in.
