Bots ratings tend to be a bit higher, to answer the earlier part. For eboards, there are the chessups. And for the discrepancy in skill, I am inconsitent myself, and so do others, I think it might be due to tilt making you play bad, and winning streaks making you more confident. (Tilt is another way of saying losing elo)
On the struggle bus at 700ELO Online

I usually don't use the forums, but trying to understand something, maybe can help here.
First off I am not accusing anyone, and have questions.
Short background: started playing chess in childhood, taught by a parent (whose parent taught them), played some computer chess/online but not super much. Stopped playing at some point
Fast forward several decades (time flies), and started playing again, in part because of our kids.
When I started playing again, took it up as hobby: studying chess like openings, etc. Nowadays with things like Chess.com, Youtube, etc learning and play chess is a lot easier. I like playing against other people, and playing chess with our kids is a good way to bond too.
Against bots I can beat 1200 to 1700 iiuc (stockfish levl 4 for example). Our one son is a 1000 ELO about, and has won in school tournament for example. I can't beat him (yet), at his current strength, he trains regularly, but I give him a run for his money, to a close end game for example.
My weak points are transition/end of midgame and endgame, as well as blunders.
I started playing with a wooden board and pieces, while having an online game open, because I prefer seeing the real pieces, like the lines for example. When a move is done online, I mirror the move on the real board. I am looking into an eboard (but that is a different story)
Yet, for the life of me on Chess.com I struuuuggglee to barely beat, and often lose around 600/700. In my previous account iiuc the highest I got was like 900 at some point (I deleted that one because I got fed up with online chess)
To be clear, I do not mind losing, at all: gg you are the better player. I enjoy playing the game
At the same time, online: I come across players that have incredibly strong opening to only complete blunder and get destroyed from mid game. Or another example that I run across: sometimes have incredibly strong (game changing moves) that I struggle to put at 700ELO, or people who play more like 1500/1700?
I don't know, I almost feel playing at 1000ELO at Chess.com is easier than 700ELO sometimes.
Not sure, but it feels like easily lose points when lose a match, but don't get as much as when you win?
Another way of looking at it: 700ELO now, is the 1200 ELO or so of before? What with YouTube, Chess.com teachings, etc. people can have so much knowledge of Chess (which is a good thing and good for the game)
However, I would like to grow. I know I need to improve some things, but what (if anything) am I overlooking, where do I need to improve, to get past 700 ELO, and grow.
Why is there such a disrepency in rating? Or are there also quite a number of other people struggling?
