ONLINE CHESS Your opponent is currently on vacation!

I am currently playing a game on line with 3 days per move. My opponent only had 3 hours left to make a move this morning and when i got back I notice he has not moved and it says Your opponent is currently on vacation!

What is the story with this i would have thought it very rude to just take a vacation and adjourn the game without the opponents consent. He now has a time left of 80 minutes but this has not changed.

Can someone please tell me what I can do to either claim the game or how long do I have to wait ?

thanks

you have to wait until they get back from vacation or until all their vacation time is used up.  or you can resign, that is the only other option.

thanks for that, it says They have 2 months 19 days of vacation time left, but may be back sooner.

so they can take that long to come back to resume the game ?

What if i do the same to them after they come back. I think it is extremly rude to start a game and there has been only 9 moves made thus far and then do this without prior consent.

i seriously doubt that someone will be gone for that long.  it may even be aout-timeout protection by for the premium members.  and yes, theoretically, you can wait 2 months and then go on your own vacation for your remaining time and have your tenth move in october.

rude or no, it is the way it is on here.  most people also have more than one game going at once so they are not idle while their opponent is on vacation.  that lessens the impact a bit.
