People from specific countries are rude

I have played a lot of games with a lot of people from different countries. However people from China have been way too rude. I complimented a guy and he wrong some very discriminatory things in the chat. Same has happened with a lot of people from china(i didn't compliment anyone else but all were just rude for no reason). Is there a way of blocking people from a specific country coz these people just ruin the fun of chess.

I don't think you can block a country but you can in settings I think block chat altogether.

RushilMehta4

That's a good idea

China's your next-door neighbor, right? Often neighbors inherently don't like each other, unfortunately...

You realize anyone can choose the flag that they want? And China will surely have blocked any site like this with an open forum.

you abort the game and you lose points on your rating. That's NOT a good idea. just disable chat like the other dude said or verbally assault them back.

Also is it bad that I get nervous when I play someone with a North Korea flag?

I say just block chat if you don't like it otherwise you can report them and send a screenshot of whatever they said and like people have been saying you shouldn't assume that it is the whole country you may just be getting the same couple people because they are at your rating. Also don't verbally abuse back cause they might report you and get you in trouble.

Your being discriminating against a whole country because of maybe THREE guys who you don't like

I'm sorry but everyone i have played from there has been rude. I think I shouldn't have generalised it. Maybe there are good people from there

Feels more like a personal bias to intentionally mention the country before anything, you've only played against one single person from China on your whole account.

That's a lot of trouble you went through for replying here.

? The problem wouldn't be the country. It's the person/player. Besides, many people put a flag in their profile and change it constantly. And one person doesn't represent a whole country.

Regards.

I get it. It was my observation. But i see there is no solution.

I'm Chinese and sometimes we type in Chinese to show our appreciation, which is often misunderstood by many people as rude. If we type some slurs or vulgarities or anything to hurt you, we just don't understand English very well. (Not lying 100%)

Basic human survival skills demand that we avail ourselves of generalisations and stereotypes for survival purposes. If I have a choice between walking through a Black section of town or a Chinese section of town to get home late at night, I think I know which way I would go. Jesse Jackson once expressed a similar sentiment tinged with a sense of guilt. This is all common sense.

BUT, when one individual encounters another party MOST of the time, an individual — for the sake of the beholder as much as the other party — deserves to be judged on their individual qualities and behaviour rather than a rule of thumb. As chess players we recognise the importance of general rules and exceptions, right?

And sometimes the countries with the largest chess players get tarnished unfairly. The Americans and Indians often get a lot of flak, but I find most are fine. I mean, to say players from the Vatican and Lichtenstein are the best behaved, amounts to saying nothing.

Won a game a few days ago...he sent me a message saying...Cancer to my family, and called me a cheater..!.....Wow...!

To attribute one persons act to a whole group that, beyond that, is not ostensibly connected is the definition of a sterotype. Beyond that on chess.com nationality is chosen in account creation.
