There is no problem though?

The problem is that you want everyone to be all goody goody & bestfriends with each other online. That is never going to happen. This is a worldwide website so obviously there is going to be thousands of conflicts here. Talking smack is apart of competition. If someone beats me in a close game, ill probably cuss at them too.

The problem is people like you, thinking that "talking smack is apart of competition".

johnyoudell

It doesn't seem to happen among people who play long time limits - at least in the year or so I've played here I have encountered no bad manners from any of my opponents.

Why blitz and bullet play should attract rude people I don't know. Especially if you are right that they are adults.

Argonaut13

Eh. i just ignore it and let it run off my skin. THEY are the ones looking like fools posting crap on peoples walls. i find it rather amusing actually :)

carey

You may be right re: bullet/blitz, Johny.  I haven't researched extensively.

Argonaut, I think the majority of people will, like you, simply ignore it.  And I agree that THEY are the ones who look like fools.

Still, as mentioned, there are kids and impressionable younger adults on this site who might not be as resilient.

And when it's so rampant, it reflects poorly on chess.com overall (even though it's not their fault).

No you don't because, if you did, you would not have made this post.  Let's face it, it's all in good fun.  Just laugh at it and move along; after all, it's just a game.

Do you laugh when they insult you? really?

Oh good, I can leave this distasteful thread, now. The type of men that are good husbands, sons, fathers and just decent human beings have shown up to join Careyfan. :)

johnyoudell

If any of the people who have made one of the posts in careyfan's list cared to explain what it is they get out of it I would be interested.

carey

Hey johny,

I'm sure none of them will speak up or bother reading this forum. But I would assume posting such things has only two goals in mind: to vent (because they feel upset that they lost or didn't get a rematch) and to inflict damage on the other person.

These types of comments clearly are not in the spirit of competition.

ERIK has spoken. Glad to hear that there will be changes!

I hope that posting on player pages isn't going to be disabled. It's a nice form of dialogue between members.

It is true that it can be abused by bad hat - but these can be blocked and/or reported and their nasty comments deleted.

Disabling the whole featurs is actually "collectively punishing" the good guys because of the bad apples. It will eliminate actually a nice publicly-open communication channel between members. I want it to stay :-)

Hold on, I misread the title of post.  I thought it said nude messages.  My bad.  I'll go to the Endless Quiz now.  :-)

I am glad to hear that the staff have ideas about getting rid of this. The owners are obviously proud of their site, as they should be, and these posts disfigure it.

I remain though (a little bit anyway) interested in the people who make the posts. Re-reading your list there seems to be anger in a number of them and violence in several. So perhaps they are people who, for some reason, get angry very easily? Although I have not met anyone quite like that.

I find myself thinking of the awful cases that seem to come up every now and then these days of children who suddenly attack all and sundry at a school. Although anger is a rather inadequate word to describe whatever happens in those cases.

Anyway I guess you are probably right to think that these angry young men are unlikely to post here.

DONT READ the notes . Its psychological warefare...Mohamed Ali won his oponents using verbal attack

johnyoudell

Muhammad Ali won his bouts because he was amazingly fast. He talked them up to gain publicity.

He is also extremely witty and amusing. Something which cannot be said of the posters careyfan has identified.

I agree a 100% with you careyfan hateful comments should be erased or the member posting them should be banned. The chat and your wall are becoming more difficult to handle I mean so many angry people out there, its kind of sad you know.

<Johnyoudell>

The issue you mention, about kids indiscriminately shooting people in schools and elsewhere, is another matter altogether - and has little to do with 'anger' or 'angry young men'.

This is a phenomena that is created by Psychiatry.

Check these senseless shooting cases - in each one of them you'll find that the person in question (the killer) was on Psychiatric drugs, generally from the SSRI family (anti-depressant).

Next, go to a pharmacy and ask to see the consumer's label on "medicine" such as Prozac, Ritalin, Xanax, Concerta - it will say under "secondary effects" - murderous thoughts, violence, suicide. They are well aware of what they are doing.

More material on this, which every citizen on Earth should be aware of, would be found at www.cchr.org, in most commonly used languages on the planet.
