Percentile 95%

Hi, even though I’ve had an account since 2015, I only recently started playing chess seriously.

Although I know the basics, some tactical patterns, and have a bit of opening knowledge from playing as a child, I’m surprised that with a rating of 1234 Elo my percentile is currently % meaning that I am top +-8%.

How is that possible that such a weak and low rated player has such a good position?

This rating distribution must be extremely right-skewed.
 
 Is it because most of the players play 1 game per 1 month or the system counts also new players who do not have any game played?

The average rating is around 600 I think

Good to know people rather play chess not matter how good they are than watching TV station.
