PoB 9/15: 3. 50 masters v. chess.com

The masters will win easily against the masses, lose horribly against a single strong player. Faster time controls definitely go way against the larger group of people as much of the strength of numbers is diminished there whilst the weakness is amplified.

I think a large group generally play better than an individual provided that they are relatively close in strength. A single strong player with a lot of weak players will almost certainly play more weakly than the strong player would on his or her own.
