i think its great. Good job. its much better than what we have now so yeah, my vote is to go ahead with it :)

I agree with stevez that the "SUBMIT" button should be on the bottom.
The "Online Chess Home" link should probably also be near the bottom but definitely not where it is now. Moving the cursor to it sometimes opens the "MY HOME" menu. It's very awkward sometimes.
"Resign" and "Analysis" should not be so close together.
If "Skip" = "Next Game" then it belongs at the top above the Game Title where it would always be in the same location on each page so you could easily flip thru your games. It could also just be a couple of arrows for "next" and "previous".
I'm very sorry you removed PGN and FEN probably due to some paranoia about cheating. It was a nice convenience.
Rating Adjustments belong displayed on the game page for a quick look instead of having to navigate thru links.
It seems to me that there is plenty of room on the left side of the board for a list of moves. This would also have the effect of centering the board thereby balancing the page.
Captured pieces could be displayed at the top and bottom of the board and could be quite small allowing more lines on the right for other features and adequate spacing. A horizontal line here and there would help make groups of features stand out, making them more convenient to locate visually.
And finally - The King's Indian Defence is E60 thru E99. A01 is the Nimzo-Larsen Attack.Tongue out

I really likee this, and the eceedingly funny long title that go on for ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever1

And one more thing - There is no need to display the names of the players on the right side since they are already displayed above and below the board. This allows more room and less clutter.

Sorta like this Wink

worm that looks pretty slick

artfizz

Yes, very neat, wormrose. (Although playing against yourself is against site rules :)

Would there be any milage in allowing each of the [major] elements to be selectable - so that everyone could customise their own display?

Hey, nice mock-up.  My big reservation about it is that the Submit Move button is on the 'wrong' side of the board in terms of the "work-flow."

a take back move function would be nice when its clear to both players that a mouse slip has occured.

I like the new designs a lot because they solve my only two issues. Scrolling through moves and skipping games are both now more convenient.  I really hope you make the changes.

new page will be live within 15 minutes. thank you all for your feedback! i hope you like it.... :D

bagpuss56

I like it.

Looks nice.  One feature I like is the "moves" buttons are displayed even if you're not in the moves tab, awesome!

Sweet!  Nice work, guys.

Fwiw, I still think the FEN would fit better in that big swath of empty space below captured pieces (Details tab), but that is small potatoes - microscopic really. :)

Wow, a fancy new 3D set, a wood-textured board and a face-lift for the controls.  Life is good!

Looks much better than before, I like it more. By the way, is there any reason why you can't just copy and paste the move list like before? That was good for online databases.

Looks good, a few ideas:

1)  I would like to see a mockup with the moves window and buttons BELOW the messages etc. window.  I just feel like the submit button should be on the bottom.

2)  It's not necessarily the same project, but in line with what TheGrobe said above, I would like the notes and messages to automatically include the move number when you submit them.  So, I would type in my message or my note, and when it appears in the window it would have the move number before it.  In this way, I could tell when my opponent said something that I may have missed, I could more easily review those messages and their relevance after the game, and I could use the notes function for annotation.

3)  Definitely not the same project, but Draw Requests should automatically generate a message such as "29. stevez requests a draw" in the message window.

Good points, especially about the submit button at the bottom.

Otherwise, the improvement is OUTSTANDING!

I always thought the move window should not be hidden.

I like the new layout.  I ALWAYS use the moves tab to remind myself of the flow of the game, having to switch to it every time was silly.  Just that change alone will be a vast improvement.  :-)

Yip.

Silly idea, or could we live without that "Your opponent is online. Stay on this... etc." message?  It's only informative on a one-time basis - for those who don't know that the e-chess page auto-updates.  Once you know that, you can tell if your opponent is online by looking at their username over the board display.

The existing message could just be a tool-tip for those who hover over their opponent's antenna-dealie icon.

agreed

Me too.

Much cleaner, but I did like the possibility of having the messages and moves screens at the same time.

Have you considered putting the messages screen below the playing board, as in "live chess?"

Aha!
