Don't care. Do what you like.
"first": care/don't care?
Personally, I don't mind if people put "first" or "third" or "16th" or things like that. I don't find it annoying and I don't see what all the fuss is about. Put me as neutral.
"first" is stupid, but equally bad are all the posts that folllow:
hard
tough one
that position would never occur in a real game
hard
i solved it in 2 minutes
good for a thursday
etc., etc., etc.
I agree with some other posters that the meaningless posts obscure possibly useful comments. I would encourage members to keep the comments relevant. I generally agree that this is mildly annoying.
Yes, I care. Wading through a bunch of meaningless postings to get to anything relevant is a real burden on my time and my ability to analyse and respond to the puzzles. I feel the same way about postings like "Easy" "Cool" or even multi-word meaningless postings about the degree of difficulty with no back-up about what it is about the puzzle that makes it that way.
One reason why those irrelevant responses are so burdensome is that the puzzle is only on the screen when I am on the first page, and it is a nuisance to have to keep bouncing from page to page to keep in mind the exact positions of the pieces and the exact ideas of a serious posting I am considering. I would still care - object to trivial irrelevant postings -, but I would care less if the daily puzzle were at the top of each page/screen of postings. Then I could flash back and forth between the puzzle and someone's relevant comment.
EDIT:
Someone mentioned the additional problem that were it not for the huge pile of irrelevant postings, we might actually go through all the postings so far to see whether our planned comment or response has already been posted. Good point. Another reason why I CARE.
I find it incredibly annoying to have to sift through several pages of inane comments such as, 'first!' 'this was easy,' or 'I like turtles' before finding something slightly relevant to the posted topic. Judging by the relatively low ratings of the people who get off spouting this nonsense, one can easily see where these mouth-breathers set their priorities.
An easy solution to this would be to order the comments in reverse chronological order so that all the drivel gets swiftly buried under newer, hopefully less inane drivel; thereby at least rendering the dreaded 'first' comment completely useless.
So yes, I DO care and wish people would stick to writing only things related to the topic at hand. Reserve your 'first' comments for the failblog.org, where they belong.
There may be a simple solution to this. Why not arrange the posts with the most recent at the top? Alternatively, one could have a "thanks" button to allow users to rate how helpful a post is, with the most helpful being highlighted at the top. These options are both open to abuse, but might perhaps improve the value of the daily puzzle to those who wish to learn from it. ...

...and there are no 'first' comments there! Refreshing, isn't it?
I don't know, it's kinda stupid IMO, but it's also funny in a certain way. Anyway put me down as a care.
I don't care.
In fact I prefer it. I have been a member of chess.com almost since its beginning. From the beginning it was understood that if you were the first to comment about a puzzle, you would only write "first" so as not to ruin the puzzle for others who would follow. There is nothing worse than seeing the solution in the first comment before you have time to solve the puzzle yourself.
After the first post though people should stop it with the second and third comments and post only if you have something interesting to say or a question. The posts that simply say "easy" are even more annoying, especially if I had a hard time solving the puzzle.
