Friends of Chess.com:

We made some server/network changes today and *seem* to have made some MAJOR improvements. Can you all please let us know if you find the site to be faster? Any notable differences on main site? Any differences on Live Chess?

Give us your feedback!

What improvements did you make?

Anyways even on a low-speed public connection pages loaded like my high-speed connection at home.

my pc took for ever to show my back ground, i dont know if it was u that fix it or i updated my flash player. we both did it at the same time, so im confuse!

Live chess seems slower to me, as in slower loading each game.

People living in countries other than USA or with "narrow"-band (broadband that is not truly broadband) connections may face some bottleneck that is not related to chess.com server/connections (they will have problem not only with chess.com, but with practically all sites not co-hosted in their countires, and buying greater bandwidth from their ISP may solve their individual connection problems).

As it stand, chess.com is now the fastest chess website, period (please compare yourself, don't take my word for it).

I am not a fan of live chess, so I cannot comment in that area.

Loomis, what browser are you on? Is it slowness in dragging chess pieces? or slowness in some other way? chatting? etc...

Firefox. Yes, dragging the pieces is sometimes not very responsive.

If I shut off other pages that use Flash, it works better.

It's just an impression, but lag seems related to game activity. Like lots of moves increase lag -- though I didn't think it should be caused like that.

Tactics trainer is now a lot quicker, which is nice. And the site loads much faster, even with a poor 3G connection, even with mobile browsers (Skyfire and Opera Mini for Symbian). Thanks!

BTW, could you auto-disable the chat bar if the page is loaded with a browser that does not support it anyway? It would make the site even snappier with phones and PDAs etc.

Live chess server is currently unavailable - Couldn`t test it yet. Usually i have 1-2 seconds delay when i enter a text msg or something.

shadster, you were able to play in live chess on February 1st, are  you still having problems accessing it ?

lemoj

I concurr, this is much much better ;) Thanks.

paaa3

yes kohai, I cant acces live chess right now.

kohai

can you please try clearing your cookies (Not cache, Just cookies) then refresh your browser and try live chess again. You should then be able to log into live chess.

paaa3

I dont know why you deleted your comment, but i  followed your advice and deleted my chess.com cookie and now live chess works fine again. Thanks!

I will edit my impression of the new live chess after i have tested it out.

edit: The new live chess is ineed faster and i experience significantly less lag.

kohai

Thanks for letting me know shadster, i was editing the message to add something extra, but it works for you now.

wow, I was playing 1 0 for the first time in a couple weeks, and there was no lag at all.  The game lasted about 17 seconds instead of the usual couple of minutes because of lag

Surprised  <---That shocked face to the left is what I looked like when I played the 1 0 game.  My mouth nearly hit the floor.

this comment nearly brought a tear to my eye...

I have certainly noticed the difference, perhaps this will put paid to schachgeek's issues with lag fishing

live chess , snap, shazaam! Ready to go!

blackfirestorm

I have no idea if this is related but while live chess seems speedy enough why is it taking around 15 seconds to load pages when I leave a profile or group note or comment in the forums?

Loomis

I still have this problem with live chess: I click the mouse down on a piece and move the mouse (button down) and the piece does not move with it.

Obviously it doesn't happen all the time or I couldn't play at all. But it happens sometimes and in a time scramble it's really bothersome.

jay

Loomis, unfortunately that is most likely a computer resources/speed issue on your end because the dragging of pieces is javascript heavy and javascript processing all occurs on the client side (your side). Do you have another computer with which you can use and compare your experience? What kind of computer are you on? I know you said you were using Firefox, have you given Google Chrome a try? i think its lighter and should be faster.
