yes exactly. it's much easier using just the computer. not to mention it would be a lot easier to reset the positions and continue along different variations and so on.
For people who don't want to have to go and have to unpack the pieces, lay them all up just to have to pack them up again 10 seconds later

may i suggest that chess.com should offer an option of a "blank" chess board application where a person can arrange the board and pieces in any way to consider and work out different moves etc.
something similar to the analysis board offered during games, but can be used outside of specific games (like an option under online chess somewhere).
