A rude comment, or maybe someone who disagrees with you reasonably. Or anyone you just plain don't like.
In fact, if you block someone, they can't can't post in threads you start. So at least you have that bit of control in the forums.
I for one don't want to see the day where the average person is deleting posts when they feel like it.

lol. Dang, I really wish we did have a feature where when we're blocked we can't even see each other's forum post.

A self-moderated thread would be abused by too many unsavoury characters. Post something contrary to the OP's opinion? *Delete*
The only things that are really missing to chess.com are:
1) More banned cheats
2) Vacation bug repaired and more vacation days

I think you'll find a similar distaste for the idea of unfettered forum moderation. Everyone having the ability to delete posts, even if only in the threads they started, is a horrible idea.
